  • Publication number: 20220282476
Abstract: The tape incudes a water vapor-permeable air and water barrier article and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer. The air and water barrier article includes a fibrous layer having first and second major surfaces and a polymeric layer on a first major surface of the fibrous layer that penetrates into the fibrous layer but leaves at least some fibers exposed on the second major surface. The pressure sensitive adhesive layer is on the polymeric layer of the air and water barrier article. The tape can retain greater than 50 percent by weight of mortar applied according to the Vertical Mortar Receptivity Evaluation. The article includes a substrate, the tape, and a composite layer comprising at least one of gypsum, lime, or cement. The composite layer is at least one of dried or cured on the second major surface of the fibrous layer. Methods of making the article are also described.

  • Patent number: 11365328
Abstract: The air and water barrier article includes a polymer-coated inelastic porous layer including a water-vapor permeable polymeric coating disposed on at least one major surface of the inelastic porous layer and an adhesive disposed on a major surface of the polymer-coated inelastic porous layer. The inelastic porous layer can include at least one of surface-modified fibers or natural cellulose fibers. The polymer-coated inelastic porous layer can at least one of a water strike through time of not more than 180 seconds or an absorbance capacity of at least one-half gram per 116 square centimeters. The adhesive may be exposed, in contact with a release surface, or adhered to a surface of a building component. A method of applying the air and water barrier article to a surface of a building component is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20210207005
Abstract: The roll includes an air and water barrier article, a pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on the first major surface of the barrier article, first and second coating compositions disposed on the opposing second major surface of the barrier article, and a liner having a first major surface in contact with the first coating composition and the second coating composition. The first coating composition has a first peel adhesion to the first major surface of the liner that is lower than a second peel adhesion of the second coating composition to the first major surface of the liner. The pressure sensitive adhesive contacts a second major surface of the liner when wound in the roll, and a peel adhesion between the second major surface of the liner and the pressure sensitive adhesive is less than or equal to the second peel adhesion. There are also provided methods of applying barrier articles, films made using these barrier articles, and building envelopes made using such films.

  • Publication number: 20210054675
Abstract: The article includes a first layer having a backing and upstanding posts or fibrous loop protruding from the backing and a second layer of at least one of dried or cured composite including at least one of gypsum, lime, or cement. The fibrous loop includes at least one of arcuate portions projecting from the first surface of the backing web, a knitted fibrous web, or a needle-punched nonwoven web. The upstanding posts may have at least one of the following features: a density of up to 248 per square centimeter, a proximal end attached to the backing and a distal end larger in area than a cross-sectional area of the proximal end with the distal end having overhanging portions extending in at least two opposing directions, or a proximal end attached to the backing and a distal end with no overhanging portion. Methods of making the article are also described.

  • Publication number: 20200171535
Abstract: An apparatus and process for applying a coating material onto a substrate as a non-uniform layer of coating material, the method including providing a distribution manifold having a cavity and a plurality of dispensing outlets in fluid communication with the cavity, creating relative motion between a substrate and the dispensing outlets in a first direction, and dispensing coating material from the dispensing outlets while simultaneously translating the plurality of dispensing outlets in a second direction non-parallel to the first direction. Using the process, coated articles having a useful non-uniform coating or coatings can be prepared, in particular self-adhesive vapor permeable air and moisture barrier membranes for use as architectural structure wraps.
