  • Patent number: 7102873
Abstract: A capacitor element on a chip, e.g., a MMIC chip, includes a main capacitor in parallel with a series configuration of trimming capacitors. The total capacitance value of the parallel arrangement can be increased from its inherently minimum value by applying one or more laser pulses to one or more of the trimming capacitors, such that in each case a short-circuit is produced between the metallization layer to which the pulses are applied and the other metallization layer making up the trimming capacitor.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 5, 2006
    Assignee: Marconi Communications GmbH
Inventors: Stefan Kern, Marco Trautwein, Martin Schallner
  • Patent number: 7018720
Abstract: The layer sequence built on a substrate in thin-film technology includes an electrically conductive sputtered layer and an electrically conductive reinforcing layer for reinforcing or strengthening the sputtered layer, which is applied on the sputtered layer by a method other than sputtering. In order to remove conducting material from the conductive layers with the aid of a laser for the purposes of adjustment while producing as little contaminating material as possible, the electrically conductive reinforcing layer has a reduced thickness or is completely eliminated in regions of the electrically conductive layers to be adjusted than in other regions outside of the regions to be adjusted.

  • Publication number: 20050230884
Abstract: A ceramic material made of alumina and titanium oxide, which is practically free from additives, achieves a high quality factor Q by annealing the material after sintering. Qualities of up to 17,900 at a measuring frequency of 10 GHz can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6686816
Abstract: A method of balancing the bandwidth of a dual-mode filter, consisting of a ring resonator produced by microstrip technology, removes strip material in one or more places on the ring resonator where the first of the two modes of the ring resonator has a maximum current intensity, and in one or more additional places on the ring resonator, where the second mode has a maximum current intensity.

  • Patent number: 6657508
Abstract: A frequency-generator circuit employs the same circuit element (preferably a varactor) to perform the functions of parametric frequency-divider and frequency-adjustment element for an oscillator used to pump the parametric frequency-divider. The varactor preferably has a flat gamma-characteristic (gamma preferably >2) over a required bias-voltage adjustment range corresponding to the required frequency-adjustment range.

  • Patent number: 6373354
Abstract: The method for adjusting a resonance frequency of a ring resonator formed as a strip line ring exactly includes removing successive amounts of conducting material from one or more positions (2,3) on the strip line ring (1) with a laser until the ring resonator has a desired predetermined resonance frequency.

  • Patent number: 6225879
Abstract: The ring resonator of a high Q-factor has a planar conducting ring (1) that is dimensioned in regard to its conductor width (w) and its diameter (d) so that it resonates in an odd harmonic or overtone vibration mode but not in its fundamental mode.

  • Patent number: 6218915
Abstract: A dual-mode ring resonator including a planar conductor ring (1) of an approximately square shape with rounded corners (2,3,4,5) has a better resonator quality factor than has previously been obtained. The circumference or length of the conductor ring (1) is dimensioned so that the resonator is operated in one of its even-numbered harmonic modes.
