  • Patent number: 6109028
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle having an auxiliary force brake device wherein the auxiliary force is generated by coupling the brake actuation to the manifold pressure of the engine. In the method, the engine is operated with increased manifold pressure during the warm-up phase after a cold start. In the method, an actuation of the brake effects limiting the manifold pressure to a maximum value by intervening in the engine control. This maximum value is less than the value which would otherwise adjust under the same conditions without brake actuation.

  • Patent number: 6029625
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for controlling an operating variable of a motor vehicle. A friction-burdened actuator assembly, which influences the operating variable, is actuated via a drive signal. This drive signal is formed on the basis of a desired value of the operating variable. The drive signal is additionally changed in response to a desired change of the operating variable to transfer the actuator assembly out of a steady state condition preferably so as to effect an actual change of the operating variable. In this way, the static friction of the actuator assembly, which is in opposition to the change of the operating variable, is overcome. Furthermore, the drive signal can be additionally changed in the sense of a reduction of the change of the operating variable when the operating variable approaches the desired value thereof.

  • Patent number: 5875760
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of controlling a drive unit of a motor vehicle wherein the drive unit is controlled in dependence upon at least one operating variable. The operating variable is detected with at least first and second measuring devices as first and second quantities, respectively, thereby providing a redundant detection of the operating variable. The two measuring devices are mounted so that they move in synchronism with each other within a predetermined tolerance. The second quantity is checked for a fault utilizing a comparison in the context of the tolerance of the synchronism of movement. A fault without a movement out of the tolerance is detected when the value of the second quantity does not change in correspondence to the value of the first quantity within at least a predetermined value range of the operating variable. The invention is also directed to an arrangement of controlling the drive unit in dependence upon the operating variable.

  • Patent number: 5645033
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for controlling the drive power of a motor vehicle equipped with a chargeable spark-ignition engine. In this method and arrangement, the engine power is adjusted via the air input and the charging pressure independently of each other as a function of the accelerator pedal deflection. In one range of the accelerator pedal deflection, the engine power is adjusted by adjusting an engine power actuator in dependence upon the accelerator pedal deflection and/or, in another range, the charging pressure is adjusted in dependence upon the accelerator pedal deflection.

  • Patent number: 5619967
Abstract: A method controls an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. The engine is supplied with air and has an ignition angle and the engine is equipped with a control unit for adjusting at least the air supplied to the engine and the ignition angle. In the method, a driver command for the control unit is detected which can be realized by effecting a change of the air supplied to the engine. The air supplied to the engine and the ignition angle are adjusted during an operating state of the engine in dependence upon the driver command. In this way, the change of the air supplied to the engine is reduced which is required to fulfill the driver command.

  • Patent number: 5499952
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for controlling the power of a drive unit of a motor vehicle wherein a power-output element is set on the basis of an operator-controlled element actuated by the driver and the power-output element can assume positions different with respect to the position of the operator-controlled element depending upon operating range. A maximum permissible position of the power-output element is determined on the basis of the position of the operator-controlled element as well as on the basis of data with respect to the operating range for function monitoring the setting of the power-output element and a fault is then detected when the actual position of the power-output element exceeds the maximum permissible value.

  • Patent number: 5484351
Abstract: An arrangement controls the torque to be supplied by a drive unit of a motor vehicle especially a motor vehicle at standstill or a rolling motor vehicle. Apparatus are provided which compute the adjustment of the power parameters of the drive unit which is necessary for making this torque available. A correction is provided at least in dependence upon the torque requirement of a transmission unit of the motor vehicle in idle or near-idle range outside of driving operation. In addition, corrective devices with respect to engine torque loss as well as torque requirements of ancillary equipment of the motor vehicle are provided. These characteristic fields are adaptatively determined in a further embodiment and can be adapted to deterioration.

  • Patent number: 5474507
Abstract: The invention proceeds from an automatic transmission wherein upshift and downshift operations are triggered in dependence upon first and second signals for adjusting transmission ratios. The first signal is representative of the transmission output rpm and/or the engine rpm and/or the transmission input rpm and the second signal is representative of the driver command. These upshift and downshift operations take place with a hysteresis which is typical for the particular upshift and downshift operation. According to the invention, the hysteresis has a time-dependent component. Thus, a time-dependent hysteresis is defined in addition to the hysteresis mentioned above which is a basic hysteresis between upshifting and downshifting. The time-independent basic hysteresis can then be selected to be very small for adjusting the gear optimal for the particular operating condition.
