  • Publication number: 20180280214
Abstract: A system for monitoring activity level of a wheeled vehicle while being manually propelled by a user includes a sensor, a wireless transmitter, and a base supporting the sensor and the transmitter. The base is mountable to a wheel of the wheeled vehicle. The wireless transmitter wirelessly transmits a plurality of data corresponding to sensor information received from the sensor regarding motion of the wheel over time. A remote computing device receives the data and dynamically determines a wheel-motion value according to the data. When the wheel-motion value is within a predetermined percentage of a predetermined maximum motion value, the remote computing device issues an alert to the user. If the wheel-motion value corresponds to motion of the wheel at a current time, the alert may be issued substantially in real time to alert the user that they may be over-exerting themselves.

  • Publication number: 20180135987
Abstract: A system for recommending changes to a wheelchair configuration setting includes a portable electronic device having at least one sensor collecting a plurality of sensor data corresponding to movement of a wheelchair. One or more processors are coupled to a storage device and a communication interface. By the one or more processors executing software instructions loaded from the storage device, the one or more processors are operable to receive the sensor data from the portable electronic device via the communication interface, and generate a recommended wheelchair setting for the wheelchair based at least in part on the sensor data. The processors compare the recommended wheelchair setting with a current wheelchair setting associated with the wheelchair stored in the storage device, and transmit a setting change message via the communication interface when the recommended wheelchair setting is different than the current wheelchair setting.

  • Patent number: 6631288
Abstract: A skin evaluation apparatus and method for rapidly assessing the degree of erythema of the skin and the skin's response to blanching. The apparatus includes a housing comprising a probe head having an emitter and sensor and a blanching edge. The emitter consists of bundles of optical fibers by means of which light from LEDs is delivered to and recovered from the skin. In use, the probe head is held flush with the skin surface causing the blanching edge to indent a fixed area of skin causing a local blanche. As the probe head is moved, the blanching edge slides along the skin surface evacuating blood as it moves. During the blanche, the LEDs are switched on and the scattered signal collected using a photodiode. A processor measures the attenuation of scattered light and gives a display of blood content against time, providing an indication of the blood circulation in that area.
