Abstract: A portal application is provided that can be used on a mobile device to display relevant advertising content to the user at convenient times. The portal application can utilize a portal browser that is launched when appropriate, which displays the advertising content in an interactive way and enables the user to follow up with tasks requiring a data connection that is currently unavailable, by keeping track of a user queue. The advertising content may be filtered from a base of advertising content provided by the advertising content providers in advanced and is pre-fetched and stored in an advertising content cache for convenient access when appropriate. The portal application can be used with a location estimator to narrow and categorize the advertising content at least in part based on location, either physical location or preferred location or both based on a hierarchy of relevant data.

Abstract: Multimedia content can be incorporated into a message handled by a mobile device with minimum invasiveness by utilizing linking mechanisms that are visually identifiable with certain content and can reveal the multimedia content, e.g. an advertisement, upon selection. This may be done by examining content in the message handled by a mobile device and matching portions of the message with predetermined criteria such as keywords or phrases. Upon finding matches, corresponding multimedia content is associated with a respective portion of the message content and access to the multimedia content is enabled through selection of a linking mechanism that is visually identifiable with the respective portion of the message. The message is modified to include such linking mechanisms such that upon viewing the modified message, a user may reveal the multimedia content by selecting the linking mechanism.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and method for modifying website flow stack to manage site-wide configuration are provided. In one embodiment a client machine is configured to accesses a website and to extract configuration options from programming instructions embedded in the website. The client machine is further configured to generate the configuration options using a second set of programming instructions, and to receive a selection of the configuration options. The client machine is further configured to directly receive web pages from the website that are specific to the selected configuration options.

Abstract: An advertising application is provided that can be used on a mobile device to impose screen control restrictions on a portion of the mobile device display, in order to provide a controllable mechanism for displaying advertising content. The advertising application causes the display screen to be split into two or more portions, with an advertising application display having limited screen control so that advertising content can be played according to a schedule or at event driven times as dictated by an administrator or other entity so that the mobile device's services may be subsidized in part by the advertising content providers. The advertising display runs independent of the normal, user initiated applications and does not need to consider screen placement within the normally running applications and is not dependent on when the user decides to close down an application.

Abstract: There is disclosed a local application for a client machine such as a wireless device, and a method of operating the client machine. In an embodiment, the local application is responsive to an external trigger instruction via a web page in a web browser of the client machine, authenticating data access or functions of the local application. The local application may provide data maintained by the local application (e.g. in accordance with a form specified by the external trigger instruction invoking the local application). The external trigger instruction may be an invocation instruction embedded therein such as an extension embedded into the header or content type of the web page. The web page may further include field ID tags mapping specific data fields in the local application's data store to form input fields provided in the web page.
