  • Patent number: 7962124
Abstract: A method and system of delivering a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) message is disclosed. In one example, the method includes providing a storage location and time duration for outside content to be indirectly referenced by an MMS message. Receiving and storing the outside content via a transport network is also disclosed. The method may include encapsulating an MMS message in a payload of a transport message with the MMS message indirectly referencing the storage location of the outside content. Delivery of the transport message may occur over a transport network. Confirming receipt of the transport message is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7835324
Abstract: A method and apparatus in accordance with the present invention provide for releasing resources dedicated to a dormant mobile station in a region served by a first network access server that has migrated to in a region in an IP network served by a second network access server to allow those released resources to be allocated more efficiently. Generally the invention includes defining logic with a Authentication, Authorization and Accounting facility (AAA) and within a network access server for triggering a release of network access server (NAS) resources allocated for a given Mobile Station (MS) when the MS moves to a physical location requiring service by a different NAS.

  • Publication number: 20100272072
Abstract: A system and a method in a wireless network utilizing session initiation protocol (SIP) for call control. The SIP payload (SDP) contains a list of voice codecs to coordinate the selection of voice bearer resources (between a calling party and a called party) such that the number of transcoders in the voice bearer path is minimized. An additional aspect of the embodiment of the present invention includes a serving MSCe that is operable to determine whether to initiate or discontinue ringback to the calling party. If ring back is to be initiated, ringback can be initiated from a Serving MGW controlled by the serving MSCe. The call negotiation process according to the described embodiment of the invention eliminates the requirement for any transcoding in specific situations to result in the number of transcoders used in the voice bearer path to be reduced to 0 (TrFO, Transcoder Free Operation) or to 1 (RTO, remote transmitter operation).

  • Patent number: 7436817
Abstract: A telecommunications system having a first PS network, second PS network and a third circuit-switched core network includes a system for terminating a legacy domain circuit-switched communication upon receipt of a trigger signal requesting termination of communication. The system includes first and second functional entities in each network. The first and second functional entities of the first network can communicate signals over an interface using a PS protocol. The first and second functional entities of the second network can communicate signals over an interface using a PS protocol. The first functional entity of the first network can communicate packet data to and from the first functional entity of the second network.

  • Publication number: 20070153766
Abstract: A system and method of providing call progress to a calling party is provided. A circuit-switched call origination message is received in a home legacy mobile station domain. The call origination message specifies a destination terminal device having a directory number assigned to the home legacy mobile station domain. A serving legacy mobile station domain in which the terminal device is registered is identified. The home legacy mobile station domain transmits to the serving legacy mobile station domain a call origination message. The home legacy mobile station domain receives from the serving legacy mobile station domain a first message that requests the home legacy mobile station domain to provide a call progress signal to the calling party. The home legacy mobile station domain provides a call progress signal to the exchange.

  • Patent number: 7136635
Abstract: The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network between the access gateway and the proxy session initiation server. Upon disruption of a communication session with a mobile station, an information packet indication disruption of the communication session is transmitted from the access gateway to the proxy session initiation protocol server. Upon receipt of the information packet, the proxy session initiation server initiates a resource release procedure freeing network resources supporting the communication session. The proxy session initiation server releases the resources and transmits an information packet to the serving session initiation server, which also initiates a release procedure. Answer and acknowledgement messages are also sent in response to the release request and/or the release of resources.

  • Publication number: 20050259679
Abstract: In accordance with the teachings of the present invention, a method and apparatus is presented to manage resources after the loss of radio link in an MMD network. The present invention provides a system and method for how a 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) Packet-Data Subsystem signals to a 3GPP2 IP Multimedia System that a terminal device has lost radio contact and how the 3GPP2 IP Multimedia System revokes all authorizations and releases all resources associated with the terminal device.

  • Publication number: 20050041648
Abstract: A method and system are provided for denying an application service request, such as a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) request, on wireless and wireline Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks or Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) networks. In one example, the method includes receiving a request for an application service from a user via a transport network, determining to deny the request, and providing a response corresponding to the denial of the request to the user via the transport network.

  • Publication number: 20040186850
Abstract: The present invention provides for the discovery of an Internet Protocol (IP) address of an application server associated with an IP network. An IP device is granted access to an IP network. Access to the IP network assumes an IP address assignment for the IP device. The network domain name is discovery by performing a Reverse DNS query on the assigned IP address or an IP address associated with the IP network device granting access to the IP device. Using a application server domain name (derived from the network domain name) a DNS query is perform to determine all IP addresses associated with the application server domain name.

  • Publication number: 20030169768
Abstract: The present invention provides a packet-switched telecommunications system having at least a first network and a second network that employ packet-switched protocol, and a third network employing circuit-switched protocol. A first functional entity and a second functional entity are employed within each of the first and second networks. The first and functional entities of both networks have an interworking engine, which allows for the communication between a circuit-switched network and a packet-switched network. The second functional entities of both networks communicate using device control protocol.
