  • Patent number: 4338826
Abstract: An improved apparatus for collecting atmospheric samples, particularly air samples, comprises a sealed collapsible receptacle which includes a hollow body having a base, top and side walls. At least the side walls are constructed of a flexible material. A venting mechanism introduces the atmosphere surrounding the apparatus into the receptacle at a controlled rate. The receptacle includes means for progressively expanding after being compressed. This progressive expansion creates a vacuum within the receptacle, thereby aspirating a measured volume of atmosphere per unit of time through the venting mechanism. Further provided are means for removing a desired quantity or sample of the retained atmosphere from the receptacle, as required.

  • Patent number: 4191054
Abstract: An improved apparatus for collecting atmospheric samples, particularly air samples, comprises a sealed first container filled with liquid such as water, a sealed second container positioned below the first container, a vent in the first container which allows the atmosphere surrounding the apparatus to enter the first container at a controlled rate, and a vent from the second container for dispersing the atmosphere contained within the second container into the surrounding atmosphere at a controlled rate. A flow channel between the first and second containers allows the liquid in the first container to pass into the second container. Passage of the liquid from the first container to the second container creates a vacuum in the first container whereby a stream of air from the surrounding atmosphere is drawn at a controlled rate through the first container vent and into the first container where it is retained. Samples may be withdrawn from the first container through the use of a hypodermic syringe.

  • Patent number: 4061924
Abstract: An angulometer for recording on film at the time of exposure, both the direction of an incident radiation beam and the angle which the beam makes with the normal to the plane of the film, the angulometer consisting of a radiation transparent plate within which is fixedly mounted perpendicularly to the plane of the plate a radiation opaque small diameter cylindrical rod which has its lower end coincident with the bottom surface of the plate. A set of concentric radiation opaque angulation indicator circles having a center common with the center of the rod are formed in the bottom surface of the plate, each successive circle of larger radius corresponding to a successively larger number of degrees of inclination of a radiation beam to the axis of the rod. In use, the device is placed on the X-ray film adjacent to the part to be X-rayed and left there during exposure. When the film is developed, the shadows of the radiation opaque concentric circles and rod appear.
