Patent number: 11995996Abstract: A drone for delivering plural repeaters in a hostile environment and method of delivering plural repeaters from the drone. The drone is controllable from a remote base station and carries a payload of repeaters on a round tray. The tray has a dispensing hole, complementary to the geometry of the repeater for dispensing the repeaters as needed. Repeaters are consecutively dispensed at stations as determined by an operator. A central radial arm sweeps each repeater around the tray, in turn, until the hole is encountered and the repeater gravity drops to a surface below. The drone may have two or more vertically stacked trays to increase payload without increasing footprint.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2022Date of Patent: May 28, 2024Assignee: United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air ForceInventors: Joseph Puglisi, Nicholas Black, Mary Hood, Michael Anderson, Joseph Anderson

Patent number: 10513043Abstract: A method of cutting a tie wrap, bound about at least one wire, using a cutting tool is provided. The method comprising steps of: applying a housing of the cutting tool to the tie wrap, positioning a portion of the tie wrap within a first groove of the housing between first two opposing sidewalls and second two opposite sidewalls of the housing, moving the at least one wire and maintaining the at least one wire a distance away from the tie wrap, moving a circular blade of the cutting tool against the portion of the tie wrap, positioned within the first groove, and at least partially cutting the tie wrap with the circular blade. In some examples, the method further comprises controlling a depth of the circular blade within the tie wrap while the circular blade at least partially cuts the tie wrap.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2018Date of Patent: December 24, 2019Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: David Scott Wright, Christine Mary Anderson, Curt Backman, Donald Wayne Coffland, Aaron Robert Ayers, Donald Richard Young

Patent number: 10513042Abstract: A tool for cutting a tie wrap bound about a wire bundle. The tool includes a body portion having a generally disc-shaped cutter and cutting edge. A shield covers one side of the cutter and defines first and second shield slots in communication with the cutting edge. A housing pivotally connected to the body portion covers the other side of the cutter and defines first and second housing slots that communicate with the cutting edge. The housing pivots between first, second, and third positions. In the first position, the first housing slot communicates with the first shield slot to expose the cutting edge for cutting purposes. In the second position, the first housing slot is out of communication with the first shield slot, thereby covering the cutting edge. And, in the third position, the second housing slot communicates with the second shield slot to expose the cutting edge.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2016Date of Patent: December 24, 2019Assignee: THE BOEING COMPANYInventors: Donald Wayne Coffland, Christine Mary Anderson, Curtis Lynn Backman, Aaron R.
