Abstract: A ground-based travel planning portal is provided that is in communication with a counterpart in-transit portal so that the content presented through each portal is consistent to a traveler. The ground-based travel planning portal includes information for both business and leisure travel planning, in addition to other more general information. The traveler is able to identify and store a user-defined profile that includes personal traveling preferences such as airlines, hotels, rental cars, and personal content layout preferences which determines what content of the portal is presented to the traveler. Accordingly, the traveler has discretion to change and modify the content layout throughout the portal. Further, the user-defined profiles are shared across the ground-based portal and a counterpart in-transit portal so that the traveler accesses a common interface regardless of their travel status.

Abstract: A user-processor interface is described for providing data content to a user in transit on a mobile platform. The interface includes at least one option selectable by the user for bi-directional access to a network via satellite link. The interface also includes at least one option selectable by the user for real-time access to video content via satellite link. The user interface allows an in-flight passenger to select from an extensive menu of travel-related information, including up-to-date flight and ticketing information pertaining to the airline and aircraft carrying the passenger.

Abstract: A portal architecture system and method is provided that includes a central content management system that communicates destination driven and travel information for mobile clients (i.e., individuals) through a plurality of interfaces. The interfaces comprise an in-flight Internet portal where the mobile client can access information regarding his/her destination or a specified destination in addition to other more general information while in-transit; a customer interface where the mobile client can access airline specific travel information; and a ground Internet portal where the mobile client can perform extensive travel planning while in-transit. Further, the mobile client can customize the interfaces according to personal preferences, and the resulting personal profiles are coordinated across all interfaces by the content management system.

Abstract: A business and leisure travel portal provides in-transit content and information to a mobile platform. The content is provided from both an on-board system having predetermined stored data and a remote system providing access to live real-time information using satellite communication. The portal is customizable and provided with various selectable elements for quick access to specific portal content. A user may access the portal with a laptop or similar electronic device. Universal navigation is also provided.
