  • Publication number: 20120271868
Abstract: Appropriate control is performed for data blocks and data block groups in a file. A file system having various functions provides an upper program with an interface for changing size, storage position and processing method in each function of extents being data block management units in a file. The file system can improve the effects aimed by the respective functions by implementing the extent configuration and processing optimized for the various functions of the file system, based on the instruction from the upper program.

  • Patent number: 8285690
Abstract: A storage system 103 carries out first and second de-duplication processes in response to receiving a write request from a client. First, a determination is made as to whether a write target data item overlaps with any of the stored data items of a part of a stored data item group, which is a user data item group stored in a storage device 209, and if so, the write target data item is prevented from being stored in the storage device. Second, a determination is made as to whether a target stored data item, which is not finished being evaluated as to whether it overlaps with the stored data item in the first de-duplication process, overlaps with another stored data item, and if so, the target stored data item or the same data item overlapping with the target stored data item is deleted from the storage device 209.

  • Patent number: 8266192
Abstract: Provided is a technique capable of efficiently operating files and directories that are stored in storage located in a physically far place from a file server, without causing a network latency. An index creation program is also loaded in a cloud computing environment, and a flag, which indicates whether or not to execute batch processing to a directory that has been migrated to the cloud side, is provided, whereby it becomes possible to collectively execute index creation processing for the migrated directory on the cloud side. More specifically, upon completion of migration of all files under a given directory to the cloud side, a flag, which indicates whether or not to perform batch processing on the cloud side, is validated for the metadata of the directory. Such a batch processing flag can be held for each application such as applications of the index creation processing and the virus check processing.

  • Patent number: 8239254
Abstract: A home storage (a first storage device) installed in each home is provided with an area for a user to store data (user area) and an area for storing ads (ad area). The first storage device checks interest and favorite information for the user in the user area, and transmits the interest and favorite information at the same time backup is performed in a second storage device at a remote site. The second storage device selects a suitable ad based on the interest and favorite information from the first storage device and transmits the selected ad to the first storage device. The user views the transmitted ad when viewing content in the first storage device. The user's viewing record for the ads is kept as statistical data, and the second storage device compiles the record, charges a sponsor an ad charge, thereby subsidizing the usage charge for the first storage device regardless of online or offline connection.

  • Patent number: 8230194
Abstract: A storage device is provided with a file I/O interface control device and a plurality of disk pools. The file I/O interface control device sets one of a plurality of storage hierarchies defining storage classes, respectively, for each of LUs within the disk pools, thereby forming a file system in each of the LUs. The file I/O interface control device migrates at least one of the files from one of the LUs to another one of the LUs of an optimal storage class, based on static properties and dynamic properties of each file.

  • Patent number: 8190573
Abstract: The present invention relates to a migration of a file from a path denotative NAS server to an ID denotative NAS server. In a file management device according to one embodiment, a migration-use path denotative NAS access section obtains a file deposit location from the path denotative NAS server, selects a migration target file based on the deposit location, and sends a read request with the deposit location of the migration target file to the path denotative NAS server, so as to obtain the migration target file. A migration-use denotative NAS access section 44 generates a write request with the migration target file, sends it to the ID denotative NAS servers, and writes the file therein. In addition, the migration-use ID denotative NAS access section registers a GUID received from the ID denotative NAS servers in a file name/GUID management table, together with the file name of the migration target file.

  • Publication number: 20120110045
Abstract: Files stored in a storage system are grouped in a metadata server, and storage servers discretely storing these files are instructed to detect file duplication and to remove duplicate data. The storage servers detect duplicate data by comparing file fragments stored by the storage servers themselves with each other. In a case where duplicate data is detected, the storage servers delete the duplicate data.

  • Publication number: 20120016854
Abstract: A file, for which writing has been reserved, in a file-sharing system can be efficiently read. A check-in file agent is provided in a computer that executes check-in of a file as the file-write reserving processing, a file manager is provided in a file-sharing computer, and a check-out file agent is provided in a computer that executes check-out of a file as the file reading processing. Upon request for check-in of a file, the check-in file agent divides the file into divided files and generates metadata that indicates the order of division of the file, and transmits them to the file-sharing computer for storage therein. Upon request for check-out of the file, the check-out file agent receives the metadata from the file-sharing computer, and based on the metadata, sequentially receives the divided files to generate a file to be checked out.

  • Publication number: 20120005440
Abstract: A new storage tier is added to a plurality of storage tiers configured in storage areas of a plurality of types of storage devices, whose processing performance is different from each other, without changing its operation form. If a new Tier3 constituting a file system FS4 is added between Tier2 and Tier3, a file server 16 adds a registered generation 1 to a tier number change management table 78, sets Tier3 as the added file system FS4 in the registered generation 1, manages Tier4 as a file system FS5, which has been changed from the former Tier3, adds a policy corresponding to a policy number 1005 to a migration policy management table76, updates only the registered generation from 0 to 1 for policy numbers 1002, 1005, and manages the migration policy management table.
