  • Patent number: 7759001
Abstract: A circuit substrate (3) being electrically connected to a rechargeable battery (2) is arranged upon a sealing plate (23) with a gap therebetween and united with the rechargeable battery (2) by filling resin in the gap. A primary mold (11) formed by the resin is firmly retained by undercut portions formed in engaging protrusions (26). The engaging protrusions (26) may be formed by welding separate engaging members (126, 126a, 126b, 126c, 66, 68).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 6, 2003
Date of Patent: July 20, 2010
    Assignee: Panasonic Corporation
Inventors: Katsumi Kozu, Takeshi Ishimaru, Satoshi Kataoka, Koichi Toriyama, Masahiro Mizuta, Masaaki Kaneda, Kenjin Masumoto

  • Publication number: 20040170887
Abstract: The open end of a battery case (1) that houses an electrode assembly (14) is sealed with a sealing plate (3), the top of the sealing plate (3) is closed off with an insulating plate (11), and inside a concave section formed in the sealing plate (3), a positive electrode lead (12) that extends from a positive electrode plate of the electrode assembly (14) is connected in series to a thermal fuse (8) and a PTC element (9) and then to a positive electrode terminal (+). A two fold safety function is provided so that in the case of an external short-circuit across the positive and negative electrodes, excessive current is regulated by a rapid increase in the resistance of the PTC element (9) accompanying the temperature increase, whereas if a temperature increase occurs that cannot be regulated in this manner, the thermal fuse (8) fuses, breaking the circuit.

  • Patent number: 6743546
Abstract: Battery with a flexible laminate casing includes a means for fixing the electrode assembly (2) within the casing (1, 18). The fixing means may be a frame (19, 33, 38, 50, 54) attached to the periphery of the electrode assembly, or an insulating spacer (59, 69, 70, 77, 78) encased within the casing together with the electrode assembly such as to fill a space between one end of the electrode assembly and the casing. Alternatively, the fixing means may be constructed of a material with which the casing and the electrode assembly are joined together by applying heat and pressure, or may be an abutting surface (87h) provided to the casing (87) itself such as to make contact with one end face of the electrode assembly within the casing.

  • Patent number: 6692542
Abstract: A separator is inserted into a slit formed in a winding core. A negative electrode plate made of thin metallic foil is fed toward the winding core as being held around the circumferential surface of a tape suction drum that is rotatably supported. The tape suction drum and the winding core are brought in mutual contact under pressure with their respective axes in parallel, and the winding core is driven to rotate, so that the tape suction drum is synchronously rotated with the winding core, by means of the frictional force acting between them, whereby the negative electrode plate held on the tape suction drum is wound onto the winding core together with the separator.

  • Patent number: 6451478
Abstract: A gasket-integrated case is obtained by punching out a circular piece from a metal sheet on which a gasket resin film having a round hole is integrally laminated with an adhesive, in such a way as to have a diameter concentric with, but larger than, the round hole, and by drawing the circular piece into a bottomed cylindrical shape. Elements for electromotive force and a sealing plate are then disposed on the case, and the periphery of the sealing plate is sandwiched and sealed by the periphery of the case by crimping, with a gasket including the resin film interposed therebetween, so that a coin-shaped battery is formed. The resin film has a thickness in the range of 20 &mgr;m to 150 &mgr;m and a modulus of elasticity equal to or greater than 35 kgf/mm2.
