  • Patent number: 4457676
Abstract: A scroll type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed which includes a housing having a front end plate and a cup shaped casing. A fixed wrap extends into an operative interior area of the casing from an inner end surface of an end plate of the cup shaped casing. An orbiting scroll has an end plate from which an orbiting wrap extends, and an opening at the center of the end plate. A drive shaft is rotatably supported by the front end plate and a crank pin extends from its inner end surface. The crank pin is rotatably carried within the opening of the end plate of the orbiting scroll through a bearing to thereby rotatably support the orbiting scroll. The crank pin has a radial flange at its inner end surface and a spring washer is disposed between the radial flange and the bearing to urge the orbiting scroll against the front end plate.

  • Patent number: 4456435
Abstract: A scroll type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a housing. A fixed scroll member fixedly disposed within the housing and comprises a first end plate means from which a first wrap means extends. An orbiting scroll member also comprises a second end plate means from which a second wrap means extends. Both wrap means interfit at an angular and radial offset to make a plurality of line contacts to define at least one pair of symmetrical sealed off fluid pockets. The first end plate means is formed with two holes which are placed at the symmetrical position. A valve means controls the passage of fluids through the holes. The valve means is controlled by the changes of the external environment. The capacity of compressor can thereby be easily changed in response to the changes in the external environment.

  • Patent number: 4453899
Abstract: A scroll type fluid displacement apparatus having an orbiting scroll member and a fixed scroll member which form at least one pair of sealed off fluid pockets therebetween for fluid compression. The axial end surface of the spiral element of the scroll member has a groove along the spiral curve. A seal element is loosely fitted in the groove and has a reinforcement member for preventing localized bending thereof. During operation, the pressurized fluid flows into the groove to urge the seal element against the opposite end plate, so that the axial sealing between the spiral element and end plates is effected, and localized wear of the seal element by changes in the fluid pressure is prevented by the rigidifying reinforcement member.

  • Patent number: 4437820
Abstract: In a scroll type fluid compressor having an orbiting scroll member and a fixed scroll member which form at least one pair of outer fluid pockets and a central pocket therebetween for fluid compression, the axial end surfaces of each spiral element of the scroll members have a groove along the spiral curve. At least one closed portion is located along the groove to block fluid flow in the groove. A seal element is loosely fitted in the groove. During operation the compressed fluid flows into the groove to urge the seal element against the end plate of the opposite scroll member so that the axial sealing between the spiral element and the end plate is assured without leakage of fluid along the groove. Also, the closed portion is located along the spiral element at the location where the line contact point where the outer fluid pockets and the central pocket merge to prevent back pressure changes from causing excessive wear of the seal element.

A fixed scroll member is fixedly disposed within the housing and comprises a first end plate means from which a first wrap means extends. An orbiting scroll member comprises a second end plate means from which a second wrap means extends, and is supported for orbiting motion within the housing. The first end plate means is formed with two holes which are placed at symmetrical positions to be simultaneously closed by the axial end surface of the second wrap means. These two holes are connected to one another by a passage means. The pressure in the sealed off fluid pockets is thereby equalized at the time the pockets are sealed.

  • Patent number: 4425520
Abstract: A device with an electromagnetic clutch includes a tubular member of steel which is secured to, and cantilevered by, a flange member secured to a housing of the device. A pulley having magnetic pole faces is rotatably mounted on the tubular member by one or more bearings. A drive shaft of the device extends out of the housing and through the tubular member, and supports a magnetic armature on the extended end. An electromagnet associating with the pulley is fixedly supported on the flange member to supply magnetic attraction force for attracting the armature plate to the pulley. In the arrangement, since the wall thickness of the tubular member is made thin, the outer diameter of the clutch can be reduced without degrading the transmission of rotational force. And a shaft seal assembly can be mounted on the drive shaft within the tubular member. Furthermore, the inner ring of the bearing is held between the flange member and a retaining ring fitted onto the tubular member, to be prevented from axial movement.

  • Patent number: 4332535
Abstract: A scroll type compressor unit including a compressor housing having fluid inlet and outlet ports, and two fixed and orbiting scroll members within the compressor housing. Each scroll member has an end plate and a spiral element which are maintained angularly and radially offset so that both spiral elements interfit with a line contacts between the spiral curved surfaces to define moving sealed off pockets. In order that the fluid may be reliably taken into all fluid pockets, the end plate of the fixed scroll member is formed with a suction port connecting to the fluid inlet port at a position adjacent to the outer terminal end of the orbiting spiral element. Thus, the fluid introduced through the suction port may be taken into a fluid pocket which is formed at the outer terminal end portion of the orbiting spiral element and is sent along the outer surface of the orbiting spiral element to a fluid pocket which is formed at the outer terminal end of the fixed spiral element.

Abstract: A scroll-type compressor unit which includes fixed and orbiting scroll members contained within a cylindrical housing. Each scroll member has an end plate and a spiral element. In order to reduce the radius of the cylindrical housing, the end plate of the orbiting scroll member is a circular plate having a radius of (a-R/2), and the center of the end plate of the orbiting scroll member is offset from the center of the spiral element affixed thereto, assuming that the radius of the orbital motion of the orbiting scroll member is R, and that the distance between the center and the terminal end of each spiral element is a.Furthermore, the fixed scroll member is so disposed in the cylindrical housing that the center of the spiral element thereof is offset from the center of the cylindrical housing towards the terminal end of the spiral element thereof by R/2. In this arrangement, the radius of the cylindrical compressor housing is further reduced.
