  • Publication number: 20080071841
Abstract: First information representing a plurality of snapshot acquisition time points of the data storage device, journal management data which are second information including the time point at which data are written to the data storage device and the size of the journal for writing the data, and third information representing a plurality of recovery points are acquired. The total transfer data size of one or more data to be transferred in order to recover the data group of the data storage device at the recovery point is calculated for each recovery point on the basis of the first information, journal management data, and third information. A display screen that visualizes the correspondence relationship between the respective recovery points and respective recovery load information representing a recovery load that is expressed on the basis of the total transfer data size calculated for the respective recovery points is displayed.

  • Patent number: 7343465
Abstract: Use a storage system having a first data storage unit. The first data storage unit has a temporary storage area which is prepared in advance for the purpose of being provided to a host computer. Prior to completion of a process of creating a normal storage area within a second data storage unit in response to a storage area allocation request, the temporary storage area is associated with access point information for specifying access point in response to the allocation request. The access point information is to be used by the host computer to access the normal storage area. Then prior to completion of the normal storage area creation process, an access by an access request including the access point information from the host computer is relayed to the temporary storage area associated with the access point information.

  • Patent number: 7330946
Abstract: The data processing system comprises at least one first storage system, and at least one second storage system connected to the first storage system. The second storage system receives change information identifying pre-change and post-change copy destination storage areas in a change process for changing a copy destination storage area of a target copy pair to another storage area of the second storage system; transmits the change information to the first storage system that has a copy source storage area in the target copy pair; and transmits copy information for the purpose of copying data between the pre-change and post-change copy destination storage areas. The first storage system refers to pair information identifying the copy pair, and transmits a copy of the data stored in a copy source storage area to the second storage system that has a copy destination storage area. The first storage system updates the pair information according to the change information received from the second storage system.

  • Publication number: 20070266215
Abstract: Provided is a storage medium management system, in which when the same data as that stored in a first physical storage area is stored in a second physical storage area, a storage system connected to a host computer compares the number of remaining rewritable times for the first physical storage area and the number of remaining rewritable times for the second physical storage area with each other. When the number of remaining rewritable times for the first physical storage area is less than the number of remaining rewritable times for the second physical storage area, the storage system writes data written from the host computer to the second physical storage area and copies the data written in the second physical storage area to the first physical storage area.

  • Publication number: 20070245110
Abstract: This storage system modifies the migration plan in accordance with the state of the migration destination when a plurality of volumes are migrated all at once. Migration-source volumes are migrated collectively to volumes inside the migration-destination storage apparatus. The user can make settings related to migration-source volumes and migration-destination volumes in a migration plan, and can establish a mid-process control plan for modifying the migration plan in the middle of processing. If a failure occurs in the migration-destination storage apparatus subsequent to the commencement of data migration processing, a processing method controller either cancels or temporarily halts the data migration processing, or changes the migration destination, on the basis of the mid-process control plan. When changing the migration destination, a previously selected alternate storage apparatus is selected as the new migration-destination storage apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20070112894
Abstract: A computer system includes one or a plurality of host computers, a storage system including a disk device having a data volume for reading and writing data by the host computer, and a management computer for connecting the host computer and the storage system. The storage system obtains a snapshot of the data volume at a specific time point, holds the written journal after the specific time point, recovers the snapshot with the snapshot obtained at the time point near a recovery point, as the base, in the recovery, by applying the journal to the snapshot, specifies the journal depending on the snapshot or journal as a releasing target by using an order relationship used for determining the order between the snapshot, serving as the base, in the recovery, and the journal applied to the snapshot upon releasing the snapshot or journal, and releases the specified depending journal together with the snapshot or journal as a releasing target.

  • Publication number: 20070113007
Abstract: The storage system of the present invention comprises a plurality of physical storage regions comprising a physical storage region having one or more attributes, and a physical storage region having a plurality of attributes. A prescribed attribute is allocated for each pool constituted from two or more physical storage regions, and each such pool has overlapping physical storage regions, which overlap one another, and non-overlapping physical storage regions, which do not overlap one another. The overlapping physical storage region constitutes two or more pools of the plurality of pools because it has the same plurality of attributes as the plurality of attributes respectively allocated to the plurality of pools, but the non-overlapping physical storage region is not like this, and constitutes only one pool.

  • Publication number: 20070073988
Abstract: When migrating data stored in a storage region assigned to a volume to another storage region, the connection status of the host computer and volume is confirmed. When the host computer and volume are connected, the maximum capacity of the volume requested by the host computer is reserved so that it is exclusively secured in another storage region to which data is to be migrated, and when the host computer and volume are not connected, the current capacity of the volume is reserved so that it is exclusively secured in another storage region.

  • Publication number: 20070033355
Abstract: There is disclosed a data storage system used in a computer environment where there are plural host computers and plural storage array controllers. When a remote copy is made while assuring the order of writing across plural storage array controllers, one of the host computers gains copy information about all the storage array controllers associated with the remote copy as a representative. The representative one of the storage array controllers collects and stores copy statuses which are individually managed by the storage array controllers for which a remote copy is made. The host computer gains the copy statuses from the representative controller using an instruction to gain the copy statuses.

  • Publication number: 20070011361
Abstract: Conventionally, it has been impossible to choose storage subsystems for selective implementation of I/O delay to prevent buffer from overflowing during remote copy. According to this invention, in a management computer that manages serially connected plural storage subsystems in a computer system, the computer system having a host computer to write data in the storage subsystems, the plural storage subsystems each have one or more logical volumes where data is stored and a buffer where data is stored temporarily, the logical volume of one of the storage subsystems and the logical volume of another of the storage subsystems form a pair for remote copy, and the management computer observes the usage of each buffer and issues, when the usage of the buffer exceeds a given threshold in a first storage subsystem, a command to delay executing write processing to the storage subsystems that are upstream of the first storage subsystem.

  • Patent number: 7159074
Abstract: When replacing a disk device that has passed over a warranty expiration date with a new disk device, data necessary to be stored thereafter among the data that is recorded in the device must be transferred to another disk device, to thereby require a time for processing. A storage system includes: a storage device having a plurality of disk drives that stores data; and a data storage managing device which is connected to the storage device and has a data storage managing module that manages the storage of the data in the storage device, in which the data storage managing module compares a retention date of the data to be stored with a warranty expiration date of the disk drive, selects a disk drive that stores the data as the result of the comparison, and stores the data in the selected disk drive.
