  • Patent number: 4546081
Abstract: Continuous fermentation with yeast to produce alcohol is carried out by continuously passing a carbohydrate-containing substrate liquid through a vessel packed with a thin film means having yeast immobilized therein. Surfaces of the thin film means extend in the direction of flow within the vessel to provide elongated parallel passages. The thin film means occupies from 10 to 65% of the volume of the vessel and preferably has a thickness of 0.1 to 3 mm. Preferably, the thin film means is formed by mixing an aqueous yeast suspension with a photo-crosslinkable resin and subjecting the mixture to radiation to photo-crosslink the resin.

  • Patent number: 4450123
Abstract: In producing microcapsules using the amino resin as a capsule wall in a system in which hydrophobic core material is dispersed or emulsified in an aqueous acidic solution containing an anionic colloidal substance, said anionic colloidal substance comprises an anionic, water-soluble copolymer consisting of at least three monomers including acrylic acid, hydroxyalkylacrylate or hydroxyalkylmethacrylate and styrenesulfonic acid. The process of the present invention provides a good emulsification against the variation of the emulsifying condition, a good stability of emulsion between the encapsulating reaction, an excellent stability against the variation of the encapsulating conditions and a superior capsule slurry.

  • Patent number: 4355053
Abstract: A method for improving the adhesiveness of the surface of a synthetic polymeric substrate to coatings, which comprises coating the surface of the synthetic polymeric substrate with a photopolymerizable composition comprising (A) a hydrophilic resin obtained by the polymerization of a polymerizable unsaturated monomer composition containing at least 10% by weight of a hydrophilic unsaturated monomer, (B) a radical-polymerizable mono-unsaturated monomer and (C) a triplet state sensitizer having a triplet state energy of at least 50 Kcal/mole, and then irradiating actinic rays to the coated surface of the polymeric substrate.

  • Patent number: 4082688
Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing microcapsules, which comprises gelating oil-containing capsules having capsule walls of coacervates, and using at least two kinds of chemical hardening agents in a hardening step;--the hardening agent to be added at first serving to act slowly upon the capsule walls and the hardening agent to be added later serving to act rapidly.

  • Patent number: 4033920
Abstract: A process for producing an aqueous emulsion of unsaturated resin suitable for radiation curing coating compositions comprises the steps of: synthesizing polyvinyl resin having an acid value of 50 to 230 by solution polymerization, adding a monomer having both epoxy group and reactive unsaturated group to said polyvinyl resin, if necessary further mixing a monomer of above 190.degree. C in boiling point having reactive unsaturated group(s) to the above adduct, removing solvent under reduced pressure, neutralizing residual acid groups with base and dispersing the neutralized product into water.

  • Patent number: 3940539
Abstract: A pressure-sensitive sheet recording system is disclosed in which the components of the system are arranged and related so that the system is particularly resistant to smudge and accidental marking due to incidental contacting forces.
