    Abstract: The present invention relates to an epoxy resin composition for FRP that will be used for fishing rods, golf club shafts, and the like, a prepreg that is an intermediate material made up of an epoxy resin composition combined with reinforcing fibers, and a tubular molded article obtained using it. The epoxy resin composition for FRP of the present invention comprises (A) a bisphenol A-type epoxy resin, (B) an epoxy resin having oxazolidone rings, and (C) a curing agent. By using the epoxy resin composition for FRP of the present invention, a prepreg quite excellent in handleability and a tubular molded article improved in flexural strength in the longitudinal direction and crushing strength in the diametrical direction can be obtained.

The present invention provides a method which permits execution even in low temperature conditions, and which moreover exhibits superior repair and reinforcement effects in a short period of time; during the impregnation of a resin into a sheet material comprising reinforcement fibers and the curing of this resin to form a fiber-reinforced resin layer which is used in the repair and reinforcement of preexisting structures, a reactive mixture having a gelling period of 15 minutes or more at a temperature of 20° C. and which polymerizes even at 5° C.

    Abstract: A prepreg for fiber-reinforced composite materials comprising (A) a reinforcing fiber having a modulus of elasticity of 200 GPa or more, (B) a fibrous thermoplastic resin having a modulus of elasticity of 100 GPa or less, and (C) a thermosetting matrix resin. The prepreg of the present invention does not only have excellent handling property equivalent to that of the prepreg with the conventional thermosetting resin as a matrix, but also gives excellent toughness to the resulting molded product without injuring the thermal and mechanical properties. Particularly, it has a high resistance to interlaminar fracture when exposed to impact, so that it is preferably used as a structural material for airplanes, etc.

    Abstract: An antistatic agent capable of imparting a permanent antistatic property to a methacrylic resin is prepared as follows. First, an alkyl methacrylate is subjected to living polymerization in an atmosphere substantially free of water in the pressure of at least one compound acting as a source for supplying an anion selected from HF.sub.2.sup.-, (CH.sub.3).sub.3 SiF.sub.2.sup.- and F.sup.- by using as an initiator a compound represented by the formula (I) or (II): ##STR1## wherein R is H or CH.sub.3 and R.sup.1 is H or alkyl; second, a methacrylic acid ester comprising at least 80 mole % of a methacrylic acid ester represented by the formula (III): ##STR2## wherein R.sup.2 is alkyl and m is from 1 to 6, is subjected to living polymerization in the presence of the polymer obtained in the first step, to prepare a di-block or tri-block copolymer; and then, amino groups of segments derived from the methacrylic acid ester of the formula (III) in the block copolymer are quaternized.

Polymer [I] contains an inner layer of crosslinked acrylic elastomer and an outer layer of acrylic resin, wherein the amount of elastomeric inner layer is minor in comparison with the amount of the resin outer layer; polymer [II] has the same fundamental polymer structure as multi-layer structure polymer [I] except that the amount of crosslinked elastomer inner layer is a major amount as compared to the amount of resin outer layer. It is preferred that an intermediate layer having an intermediate property exist between the inner and outer layers of the multi-layer structure polymers.
