    Abstract: A leather-like sheet material comprising a sheet material composed of a fiber aggregate and a elastic polymer, the sheet material containing a fluorine-containing side-chain-modified urethane compound which satisfies the following requirements (i) to (iii), (i) said urethane compound containing a urethane-bond-containing compound having a molecular weight of 500 to 5,000 and fluorine-containing side chains having a molecular weight of 200 to 1,000 each, 3 to 12 such fluorine-containing side chains bonding to the urethane-bond-containing compound, (ii) said urethane compound having a fluorine content of 20 to 60 by weight as a fluorine atom, and (iii) said urethane compound having 6 to 36 urethane bonds per molecule. The present invention provides a process for the production of the above leather-like sheet material, a modified urethane compound satisfying the above requirements (i) to (iii) for use in the process, and a process for the production of the modified urethane compound.

According to the present invention, the abrasive ground fabric is suitably used for the texturing of a substrate in the production of a magnetic recording medium, particularly a hard disk, enables high-accuracy surface finish and has excellent strength.

    Abstract: A leathery sheet material which comprises a fibrous mat and a polyurethane composition applied all over the mat in an amount of 10 to 80% by weight based on the total weight of the mat and the polyurethane composition. The polyurethane composition contains 0.1 to 5.0% by weight of a surface active agent having a molecular weight of 2,500 to 30,000 which comprises a hydrophilic component and a hydrophobic component being combined by a urethane bond and/or an amide bond. The hydrophilic component is polyethylene oxides comprising 30 to 80% by weight of the surface active agent and the hydrophobic component is a member selected from the group consisting of a polyalkylene oxides excepting polyethylene oxides, aliphatic polyesters and mixtures thereof. The leathery sheet material has excellent flexibility, excellent antistatic properties and excellent soil resistance.

    Abstract: A process for producing microporous sheet materials which comprises the step of:(1) preparing a suspension in an organic solvent of a polyurethane elastomer containing polyoxyethylene segments with or without a polyurethane elastomer not containing these segments;(2) mixing the resulting organic solvent suspension with water in an amount of not less than 50% by weight based on the polyurethane elastomer in the organic solvent suspension to form a water-in-oil dispersion;(3) coating or impregnating a substrate with the resulting dispersion;(4) if desired, partially evaporating the organic solvent from the product so treated;(5) contacting the coated or impregnated substrate for a short period of time with a coagulant having a coagulation value of not more than 25%, and(6) drying the product obtained in step (5).
