Abstract: The provision of an optimized arrangement for reading tasks at a clamshell or laptop computer, particularly to facilitate reading in portrait mode. Further contemplated herein are arrangements for readily switching between a reading (portrait) operating mode and a “normal” (landscape) mode. Such changes could be brought about via essentially any suitable arrangement, such as via an accelerometer which acts automatically, or a hotkey which is activated manually. Additionally contemplated herein is the use of mouse keys for alternative purposes specific to switching between the reading/portrait modes, such as utilizing left and right mouse buttons for page up and page down controls for reading (in portrait mode). A mouse pad (touchpad) can also be employed for alternative purposes in reading/portrait mode, such as the use of horizontal mouse pad scrolling for vertical document scrolling in reading/portrait mode.

  • Publication number: 20100289758
Abstract: An electrostatic capacity type position detecting device having increased scanning speed is provided. The device includes a signal supplying electrode including a plurality of electrodes arranged in parallel with each other in a first direction, and a receiving electrode also including a plurality of electrodes arranged in parallel with each other in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. A one-shot pulse having a predetermined time width is applied sequentially to the plurality of electrodes of the signal supplying electrode at a frequency equal to an integral multiple of 200 kHz. In other words, the sequential application of the one-shot pulse occurs with a time difference that is shorter than (e.g., 1/N of) the predetermined time width. A current change caused at rising and falling edges of the one-shot pulse is detected through the receiving electrode, to thereby indicate a position on the position detecting device.

  • Publication number: 20100277419
Abstract: A computer system displays an object on a touch surface and detects multiple touch points on the touch surface in proximity to the displayed object. Next, the computer system detects one or more touch point movements originating from one or more of the plurality of touch points and determines a type of sector in which each of the touch point movements enters. In turn, when one of the touch point movements enters a rotate sector, the computer system performs a rotate command on the object.

  • Publication number: 20100245258
Abstract: An approach is provided that filters out inadvertent contact with a touch pad input device. A filter area is defined within a surface of a touch pad input device that is accessible from an information handling system, such as a computer system. When a user of the information handling system contacts the surface of the touch pad, an input stream is received. The input stream includes an origination point where contact was initially made by the user. If the origination point is within the defined filter area, then the input stream is filtered out (not processed). On the other hand, if the origination point is outside of the defined filter area, then the input stream is processed by the information handling system.

  • Patent number: 7528743
Abstract: In an information transmitting device, a variable capacitor which is charged to have a predetermined voltage discharges through a predetermined resistor. Until the voltage becomes lower than a predetermined threshold voltage, the number of AC signals having a predetermined frequency is counted. Accordingly, first continuous amount information of a binary code corresponding to a writing pressure is obtained and is converted to a Gray code, which is regarded as second continuous amount information. A resonant circuit is opened or shorted in accordance with ‘0’ or ‘1’ in the second continuous amount information, so as to transmit the second continuous amount information.
