  • Patent number: 6756955
Abstract: A liquid-crystal driving circuit has an image data processor that, for example, encodes the present image, decodes the encoded image, delays the encoded image by one frame interval, decodes the delayed encoded image, and uses the two decoded images to generate compensation data for adjusting the gray-scale values in the present image. The encoding process reduces the amount of image data, thereby reducing the size of the frame memory needed to delay the image. The compensation data preferably cause the liquid crystal to reach transmissivity values corresponding to the gray-scale values of the present image within substantially one frame interval. This enables the response speed of the liquid crystal to be controlled accurately.

  • Patent number: 6724398
Abstract: An image is processed by detecting pixel-to-pixel variations in brightness level, generating high spatial frequency information related to the variations, setting interpolation points with a spacing that varies according to the high spatial frequency information, and generating new pixels by interpolation at the interpolation points. By increasing the zoom ratio in one part and reducing the zoom in another part of each edge in a continuous manner, this method can mitigate edge degradation when an image is enlarged or reduced, without introducing discontinuities or other image artifacts. It also provides a convenient way to adjust edge sharpness in an image.

  • Publication number: 20030231158
Abstract: A coding circuit codes present image data of a pixel which is received as raster data and a delay circuit stores a coded image data for one frame period and outputs one-frame preceding image data of the pixel in accordance with an input of the coded image data. First and second decoder circuits decode coded image data and one-frame preceding coded image data, respectively, a variation-amount calculation circuit calculates variation-amount data of both decoded image date, and an one-frame preceding image reproduction circuit reproduces one-frame preceding reproduced image data. An image date correction circuit generates corrected present image data on the basis of the present image data and the one-frame preceding reproduced image data.

  • Publication number: 20030086020
Abstract: In order to reduce the total capacity of a ROM used for adjustment of the black level and the white level of a digitized luminance signal for a television receiver, for example, a comparator compares the input luminance signal with a predetermined threshold value, a NOT gate inverts the input luminance signal, a first switching unit selects the input luminance signal or the output of the NOT gate, a ROM outputs an adjustment characteristic signal responsive to the output of the first switching unit, a multiplier multiplies the output of the ROM by a weighting signal and outputs the result of the multiplication as an adjustment value, a subtractor subtracts the adjustment value from the input luminance signal, an adder adds the adjustment value to the input luminance signal, and a second switching unit selects the output of the subtractor or the output of the adder.

  • Publication number: 20030072500
Abstract: A duplicated part of identical images in an encoded image data master is judged to be selected. Image data to be reused is generated by adding a storage instruction to encoded image data of the duplicated part of the first identical image, and converting encoded image data of the duplicated part of the second identical image into a reuse instruction. In a reproduction process, decoded data in the encoded image data part including the storage instruction is stored in a vacant area and the decoded data is read at the point of the reuse instruction.

  • Publication number: 20030035068
Abstract: A color demodulation device having an AD converter, a phase signal generator, a burst data generator and a multiplier. The AD converter produces digital samples of chrominance signal at a frequency four times a color subcarrier frequency, and the phase signal generator generating a phase signal for identifying phases of a burst signal and color subcarrier signals modulated by respective B-Y and R-Y signals. The burst data generator produce burst data corresponding to the burst signals which have predetermined phase relationships with the respective color subcarrier signals according to the phase signal. The multiplier produces products of the burst data and the digital samples of the chrominance signal, from which digital samples of the respective R-Y and B-Y signals are produced.

  • Patent number: 5835164
Abstract: In a color image display system formed of a monochromatic CRT or like image display device (102) having a screen (103) for display of images and a rotary filter (106) comprising color filter sections (106R, 106G and 106B) of a plurality of colors; image signals are read from memories (130R, 130G, 130B) at a rate higher than they are written in the memories, so as to reduce flickers. The problem of passing of the reading address over the writing address is solved by reading the image signal of prominent color taking a period in which the passing over occurs. High frequency components of other color image signals are extracted and added to the image signal of each color to thereby enhance the definition of the picture.

  • Patent number: 5737036
Abstract: A color image display apparatus utilizing a field sequential signal displays a picture normally without disturbance or deteriorating vertical resolution even when displaying an interlace image signal. The color image display apparatus is formed by a field sequential signal generator for converting a primary color signal to be interlaced into a field sequential signal, a monochrome image display apparatus for sequentially displaying a converted field sequential signal, a color apparatus 5 disposed to face a display screen of the monochrome image display apparatus to color a field sequential signal displayed on the display screen, and a control circuit for controlling timing of operations of these elements. A field judging result is supplied to the control circuit, and the control circuit operates so that a horizontal synchronizing signal of the field sequential signal is outputted continuously in a constant cycle even when an image signal to be interlaced is inputted.

  • Patent number: 5574516
Abstract: A color image display system includes a monochromatic CRT or similar image display device which includes a screen for display of images and a rotary filter having filter sections of a plurality of colors. The system further includes memories for storing color image signals corresponding to each of the colors. A control circuit reads the color image signals from the memories at a higher rate than the color image signals are written into the memories to reduce image flickering. The reading operation, however, passes over the writing operation. Discontinuities caused by this passing over are reduced by reading a color image signal corresponding to a less prominent color during the passing over. Discontinuities are avoided by providing an additional memory in the system and alternately reading and writing between one of the first set of memories and the additional memory.

  • Patent number: 5523802
Abstract: A dual-mode image display apparatus includes a black-and-white image display device and a selective filter. The selective filter is caused to assume a first mode in which it sequentially serves as red, green and blue filters, and a second mode in which it transmits all the color components. Thus, the image display apparatus can selectively perform color display or black-and-white display. The selective filter may include variable optical retarders and may be caused to selectively assume the first mode or the second mode through control over the variable optical retarders. The selective filter may alternatively be moved by a motor between a first position in which the filter is in the path of light from the display device to the viewer, and a second position in which the filter is out of the path of light. A power supply controller is also used to conserve power by turning unneeded parts of a color image processing circuit OFF when the display apparatus is in the second mode.
