Patent number: 5839033Abstract: An image forming apparatus and method for setting a binding margin. When a binding margin displayed on an LCD display unit of an operation panel has been set, a main CPU calculates a position, at which writing of the image of an original document starts, and magnification (an enlargement ratio or a reduction ratio) in accordance with a program stored in a ROM and to correspond to the binding margin and the size of sheets which are set by the LCD display unit and the size of the original document read by a scanner, and causes a printer to perform printing in accordance with a result of the calculation. When a binding margin has been set, the image of an original document can accurately be printed without loss of the image of an end portion of the image of the original document while maintaining the specified binding margin.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1996Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Toshiharu Takahashi, Masako Shibaki, Miki Konno

Patent number: 5839014Abstract: A mode for sorting sheets having two sides, on which images have been printed, is performed such that sheets each having one printed side are stacked in an automatic double side device, and the sheets stacked in the automatic double side device are sequentially extracted and conveyed. If a jam takes place during extraction and conveyance of the sheets, the position, at which the jam has taken place, is displayed on an LCD display unit. After the jammed sheet has been removed, the printing operation is caused to restart. If few sheets are stacked in the automatic double side device before the printing operation is completed, a copy key is depressed to perform control to perform the printing operation once again. Also, a method for replacing the images of the sheets which are jammed during the double sided copying operation is provided.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1996Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Toshiharu Takahashi, Masako Shibaki, Miki Konno

Image forming apparatus for forming images of all original document pages in the staple sorting mode
Patent number: 5774758Abstract: A basic control portion stores image information read by a scanner in a page memory of a page memory portion through image processing means. When memory full takes place such that image information to be stored in the page memory is larger than the capacity of the memory in a case where a staple sorting mode has been set, the basic control portion suspends the staple mode and forms images in a set sorting mode by using image data stored in the page memory. As a result, even if memory full takes place in the staple mode, the image can normally be formed.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1996Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Toshiharu Takahashi, Masako Shibaki, Miki Konno -
Patent number: 5764368Abstract: Document information input by a scanner is stored in a disk storage device. Document identification information of plural document information items stored in the disk storage device is printed on a list-format retrieval sheet by a printer. The document identification information of document information newly registered in the disk storage device is printed by the printer on a vacant area of an already output retrieval sheet.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1993Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Masako Shibaki, Takefumi Nosaki, Toshiharu Takahashi

Patent number: 5712713Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a scanner for scanning an image on a document, a memory for storing image data of the scanned image in a storage medium, a reading device for reading out the image data from the storage medium, and an image forming device for forming an image on an image formation medium. An instruction device instructs a time at which the edit process of the image data scanned by the scanner is executed, according to the content of a designated edit process. On the basis of the instruction, the edit process is executed when the image is stored in the storage medium, or when the image formation is performed by the image forming device. For example, the time at which the edit process is executed is determined in accordance with the possibility of a variable magnification process at a time of output based on the designated edit process and a variable magnification ratio designated by a designation device.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1995Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Miki Hamanaka, Toshiharu Takahashi, Masako Shibaki
