The rod-shaped antenna is adapted to pivot between a first position where it is stored along the main body and a second position where it projects outward from the main body.

A circuit element, generating heat while operating, is mounted on the circuit board. A fan is contained in the housing so as to guide cooling air to the circuit element. The frame has a cooling air passage to guide cooling air thereto by the fan. The cooling air passage has a heat receiving part where heat of the circuit element is transmitted, and the heat receiving part is cooled by cooling air flowing to the cooling air passage.

Abstract: An expanding apparatus includes a housing with a bearing surface on which a rear portion of a computer is to be placed, and engaging projections arranged on the bearing surface so as to be fitted individually in engagement holes of the computer. As an operating lever provided on the housing is swung up or down, the engaging projections is moved between a first position in which the computer is connected to a first expansion connector of the apparatus and a second position in which the connection is removed. The apparatus is provided with a photointerrupter and an actuating piece which are arranged in the housing, while the operating lever has a push projection which causes the actuating piece to switch the photointerrupter on and off as the lever is swung. When the operating lever is swung from a home position toward a release position with the computer connected to the external expanding apparatus, the photointerrupter detects this and delivers a warning signal to the computer.

The connector has a connecting portion opposing the opening and allowing connection of the expansion board thereto. The connector also supports the circuit board. A restraining system is provided for restraining movement of the connector with respect to the bottom wall.

A keyboard is detachably placed in the stepped portion so that when a display rotatably mounted on the main body is rotated to its closed position, it is clamped between the display and the bottom surface of the stepped portion. A protruding portion protrudes from the bottom surface of the stepped portion and extends through a through hole formed in the keyboard so to restrain the movement of the keyboard when the keyboard is mounted in the stepped portion. The protruding portion has an abutment portion which is brought into contact with the display rotated to the closed position and supports the display. When the display is rotated to the closed position, a hook on the display engages an engagement portion formed in the protruding portion.

Abstract: An expanding apparatus for expanding functions of a personal computer includes a support assembly for supporting a connector of the expanding apparatus to be movable in a predetermined direction between a stand-by position and a pushed-in position for engaging and disengaging a connector of the expanding apparatus from the personal computer. The support assembly includes a support member to which the connector of the expanding apparatus is attached. The support assembly has a plurality of guide holes. A plurality of guide members extend from a main body of the expanding apparatus, in the predetermined direction, through respective guide holes. Each of the guide members has an extended end, with a stopper provided on the extended end for abutting the support member when the support assembly is in the stand-by position. The stopper thus limits the movement of the connector.
