  • Patent number: 6368154
Abstract: A shielded electrical connector is provided with features that enable miniaturization. The connector includes a shield having a ground spring for deflectably engaging a mated plug that is matably inserted with the connector. The ground spring has at least one elbow so that the ground spring has a longer effective length. For example, the ground spring may extend over more than one panel of the shield or have at least one generally angular or L-shaped segments. Also, a connector cable assembly is provided having a first plug connector and a second plug connector mounted at opposite ends of a cable. To ensure that a user can insert the respective plug connectors only into the respectively corresponding receptacle connectors, each of the plug connectors has a shield with a keying projection. The first and second plug connectors may be substantially identical, except that the keying projections of the first and second connectors are on respectively opposite sides.

  • Publication number: 20020031922
Abstract: A socket for a PGA package includes a planar insulative housing for mounting a plurality of terminals in grid array fashion. Each of the terminals has a solder tail projecting from one side surface of the insulative housing to be soldered to a printed circuit board. Each of the terminals includes a planar main portion extending in the direction of mounting to the insulative housing, an anchor portion for engaging with the insulative housing on side edges of the main body, a contact piece folded back into generally U-shaped configuration from a lower end of the main body and mutually opposing to the main body, and a solder tail extending toward the printed circuit board. The contact piece has a contact portion on an outside surface thereof for contacting with a pin of the PGA package.

  • Patent number: 5654878
Abstract: An improved connector terminal has a profile which facilitates insertion into engagement holes on a circuit board and increases resistance to deformation. The terminals may be part of an assembly which includes a series of terminals arranged in a spaced-apart array. Each has a solder tail portion defined by a straight edge (11) proximate to the centerline (9) and a slanted edge (12) which diagonally extends from the other side and which traverses the centerline (9) to intersect with the straight edge (11) to thereby form an acute angle at the tip (E) of the terminal near the centerline (9) to provide comparable positioning allowances on the opposite sides of the centerline (9) to facilitate mounting of the terminals on a circuit board. The acute angle point is advantageous to the optical measurement of terminal intervals for the quality control.

  • Patent number: 5653603
Abstract: An eject mechanism for a card-receiving connector equipped with a foldable eject button which provides sufficient mechanical ejection stroke without excess projection of the ejection button from a front face of an electronic apparatus. The card ejection mechanism includes an eject rod, an eject button connected to the ejection rod, and an actuation lever for ejecting a memory card from the card-receiving connector. The eject button includes a base button and an operation button. The operation button is pivotally connected to the base button and is mounted for movement between a raised position where the operation button is axially aligned with base button, and a folded position where the operation button is oriented generally perpendicular to the base button. The operation button includes a base portion for engaging a corresponding recess in the base button for holding the operation button in its raised position.

  • Patent number: 5108316
Abstract: Disclosed is a multi-pin electrical connector of low insertion force type comprising a male plug having pin terminals of two different kinds, and a female socket having contacts of same kind. Each pin terminal of one kind has a straight inclination extending downwards from its tip end at a relatively small angle whereas each pin terminal of the other kind has a straight inclination extending downwards from its tip end at a relatively large angle. Thus, the resultant insertion force of pin terminals of one kind reaches its peak value earlier than the resultant insertion force of pin terminals of the other kind reaches its peak value while the male plug is inserted in the female socket. To an advantage the straight inclination can be easily shaped with precision. This permits mass production of pin terminals of same insertion force characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5074800
Abstract: Disclosed is an improvement in a locking type ejection lever for use in a card edge connector which comprises female receptacle structure and male plug structure integrally connected to a housing of a printed board and a counter printed board to be electrically connected to the printed board, said male plug and female receptacle structure when mated together, making electrical connections between all conductors of said printed boards. A lock mechanism for a card edge connector according to the present invention can attain dual function of locking and ejecting one printed board from the housing of the other printed board, and ejection can be performed with single easy action.

  • Patent number: 5057027
Abstract: An improved female terminal for an electrical connector wherein the female terminal includes a T-shaped soldering foot, a contact section and a mounting section integrally connected together and stamped out from a metal strip. The contact section and mounting section are linearly contiguous, and the T-shaped soldering foot extends from the mounting section. Each female terminal in a consecutive series of female terminals is integrally connected to a longitudinal carrier strip and has the T-shaped soldering foot and contact section bent to opposite sides of the mounting section. All the female terminals may be inserted in the slots of the female terminal housing simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 4900278
Abstract: Disclosed is an electrical connector of low-insertion force type comprising a male plug having at least one pin terminal, and a female socket having at least one contact. Each pin terminal has straight slant opposite surfaces extending downwards from the opposite ends of its flat nose at a same angle. The flat nose is positioned with its center somewhat beyond the center axis of the pin terminal, thereby placing the opposite slant surfaces asymmetrical with respect to the center axis of the pin terminal. Thus, the insertion force of the pin terminal reaches its peak value on one side of the pin terminal earlier than the insertion force of the pin terminal on the other side. This permits substantial reduction of the resultant insertion force. To an advantage, the straight inclination can be easily shaped with precision. This permits mass production of pin terminals of same insertion force characteristics.
