  • Patent number: 7891746
Abstract: A braking device for a motorcycle for controlling a sudden increase in the braking force caused by a time lag from the time the amount of operation of a brake operating portion is detected until a change in hydraulic pressure of wheel braking means for improving the feel of braking. An input-side pressure sensor detects a master cylinder pressure and a hydraulic modulator creates a hydraulic pressure to be exerted on a brake caliper. A controller is provided for controlling the hydraulic pressure created by the hydraulic modulator in accordance with a detected signal provided from the input-side pressure sensor. In accordance with a change in the quantity per unit time of the detected signal provided from the input-side pressure sensor the controller limits a change speed of the hydraulic pressure created by the hydraulic modulator.

  • Patent number: 7841671
Abstract: To enhance a brake feel of a motorcycle adopting a combined brake system. In a braking device for adjusting hydraulic pressure supplied to a brake caliper at a rear wheel according to hydraulic pressure at a front wheel produced by a brake operation at the front wheel of a motorcycle, a pattern for adjusting a brake caliper pressure at the rear wheel is different between a case when a temporal increasing rate of master cylinder pressure at the front wheel is equal to or exceeds a predetermined value and a case when the temporal increasing rate is below the predetermined value. Further, to provide a braking device for a motorcycle wherein a variation of a vertical load of a rear wheel when a brake is applied at a front wheel is inhibited.

  • Patent number: 7794026
Abstract: A vehicle braking apparatus is capable of suppressing time lag at the time of activating an ABS, reliably detecting wheel slippage at a wheel even on a low ? road surface, and performing a brake operation to stop the vehicle without causing stroke variations in a brake actuating unit. A vehicle braking apparatus includes a hydraulic modulator for generating hydraulic pressure applied to a brake caliper which is connected to a master cylinder via a main brake path, and a pressure sensor for detecting hydraulic pressure applied to the brake caliper. When the ABS is activated, the hydraulic pressure applied to the brake caliper is reduced to a pressure reduction target value based on the detected pressure. A normally-open electromagnetic valve lies in the main brake path. The brake path pressure on each side of the valve is equalized by means of the hydraulic modulator before opening the electromagnetic valve.

  • Patent number: 7611212
Abstract: A device is provided which improves the brake feeling on a motorcycle which uses a front-rear interlocking brake system. In the motorcycle braking device, which is equipped with an ABS, a brake caliper for a rear wheel works in conjunction with brake operation for a front wheel. When the ABS is active on the side of the front wheel, which is braked by a front wheel brake actuating unit such as a brake lever, the braking pressure ratio between the brake caliper for the front wheel and the brake caliper for the rear wheel is different from that when the ABS is inactive. A process is disclosed for setting an appropriate braking pressure at the rear wheel brake caliper based on a predetermined map of the relationship between the front wheel master cylinder pressure and the rear wheel brake caliper pressure, depending on the control mode.

  • Patent number: 7234784
Abstract: In a braking device of a motorcycle, in which a rear wheel braking mechanism is operated in conjunction with a front wheel braking operation, accurate determination of a reduction in rear wheel load is provided, and additional reduction of the rear-wheel load is prevented. Determination of a reduction in rear-wheel load is based on vehicle speed in the front wheel braking operation, hydraulic pressure of a brake caliper on the front wheel side, and respective slip ratios of the front and rear wheels. When the rear-wheel load is reducing, hydraulic pressure of a brake caliper on the rear wheel side is controlled so as to keep the slip ratio of the rear wheel at or below a set value. A hydraulic modulator supplies/evacuates the hydraulic pressure to/from the brake caliper on the rear wheel side, and the slip ratio of the rear wheel is controlled by electrically controlling the hydraulic modulator.

  • Publication number: 20070075582
Abstract: To provide a braking device for a vehicle, which is capable of switching properly between single braking for one of front and rear wheels and combined braking with CBS according to the driving conditions of the vehicle, and of thereby achieving the balance between active vehicle controllability based on a driver's intention and braking performance. Brake systems respectively for the front and rear wheels are provided so that brake caliper assemblies respectively for the front and rear wheels can be operated independently of each other with brake operating sections exclusively for the brake caliper assemblies for the front and rear wheels, respectively. The brake system for the front wheel is provided with a hydraulic pressure modulator capable of feeding a braking force to the brake caliper assembly for the front wheel. When a rear wheel slip ratio exceeds a threshold value under rear brake operation, a controller activates the hydraulic pressure modulator for the front wheel to start braking the front wheel.

  • Patent number: 7188911
Abstract: A braking device for a motorcycle, in which front wheel braking means is operated in conjunction with a braking operation on a rear wheel, eliminates a rapid change in front/rear braking force distribution at the time of a rear wheel braking operation so as to consistently allow a rider to feel a smooth braking operation. Braking force distribution characteristics on the rear and front wheels are previously set for each vehicle speed. When the braking operation on the rear wheel is performed, a brake caliper on the front wheel is controlled so as to maintain braking force distribution characteristics corresponding to a vehicle speed when the operation is started.
