  • Patent number: 5665669
Abstract: A metallic honeycomb body for supporting a catalyst comprises a flat plate and a corrugated plate; these plates are formed by a foil of stainless steel in which the steel contains more than 1% of Si and the surface of the steel is covered by a film which is mainly formed by an oxide chrome at a high temperature, and are mutually bonded by diffusion bonding. The chemical composition of the foil material is comprised of up to 0.2% of C, more than 1 to 5% of Si, 9 to 22% of Cr, up to 0.8% of Al, and as necessary, at least one member selected from the group of Nb, V, Mo W and REM (rare earth member) including Y.The metallic honeycomb body is formed by which said body is annealed at a vacuum degree of 10.sup.-2 to 10.sup.-4 Torr and in a temperature range of 1200.degree. to 1300.degree. C. for 1 to 30 minutes in a vacuum annealing furnace.

  • Patent number: 5648176
Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided a process for producing a honeycomb body for a metallic carrier from a flat foil and a corrugated foil, which comprises supplying a joining agent comprising a mixture of an adhesive with a carbon powder into abutted portions between the flat foil and the corrugated foil, depositing the joining agent onto the abutted portions to form a honeycomb body and heat-treating the honeycomb body only or an outer cylinder with the honeycomb body being inserted thereinto in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to mutually join the abutted portions in a liquid phase.

  • Patent number: 5486338
Abstract: A metal catalyst carrier for exhaust gas purification, comprising: a columnar metal honeycomb composed by spirally winding a laminate of a flat metal foil and a corrugated metal foil; a columnar metal case enclosing the metal honeycomb with a space remaining therebetween; and a cushion member disposed in the space and joined to the metal honeycomb and to the metal case alternately with respect to the column circumferential direction.

  • Patent number: 5403558
Abstract: A metallic carrier composed of an end face portion formed in at least one of the axial end portions of a honeycomb body and an outer circumferential reinforcing layer in which foils in a range from the outermost layer to a quarter of the total number of layers are joined together in the axial intermediate portion. Thus, the metallic carrier is flexible in expansion and shrinkage. Further, the honeycomb body and a jacket are joined to each other mainly at the outer circumference of the outer circumferential reinforcing layer of the honeycomb body, to reduce thermal stress developed between the honeycomb body and jacket while maintaining the strength against a high temperature, to thereby prevent the metallic carrier from being ruptured.

  • Patent number: 5376284
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the treatment of an effluent containing an organic chlorine compound in the presence of a porous iron type metallic article and hydrogen peroxide thereby effecting oxidizing decomposition of the organic chlorine compound, operated by a procedure which comprises causing the organic chlorine compound having hydrogen peroxide incorporated preparatorily therein to be circulated through a closed vessel having the porous iron type metallic article disposed therein thereby effecting oxidizing decomposition of the organic chlorine compound and then simultaneously circulating and aerating the effluent containing the organic chlorine compound under the condition of keeping the upper part of the closed vessel in an opened state thereby effecting oxidizing decomposition of the organic chlorine compound or causing the gaseous phase stagnating in the upper part of the vessel to be introduced into the effluent.
