  • Patent number: 7206085
Abstract: A network facsimile machine (1) is connected to PSTN (3) such that it can receive fax data from a remote facsimile machine (2) over the PSTN (3). The network facsimile machine (1) is also connected to LAN (6) such that it can deliver the received fax data to a designated recipient (4 or 5) on the LAN (6). When a communication control unit (11) of the network facsimile machine (1) receives a ring signal over the PSTN (3) from the remote facsimile machine (2), it performs a communication procedure with the remote facsimile machine (1) and receives data identifying a network final recipient (4 or 5) to which the fax data will be delivered. The network facsimile machine (1) then references a delivery recipient table (12) based on the data identifying the final recipient, and reads out the reception capabilities of the identified recipient.

  • Patent number: 7072062
Abstract: A server device (20) which receives, from a channel, electronic mail including information of a transfer destination, an authentication number to an authentication device and data, responds to the electronic mail, requests authentication to the authentication device, and transfers the data to the transfer destination when the authentication number is confirmed by the authentication device. The server device (20) rejects the transfer of the data when the authentication number is not received by the server device (20), and sends a reply to that effect to the transmission source of the data by using electronic mail. Moreover, when the authentication number is not received by the server device (20), the server device (20) requests authentication to the authentication device by using a predetermined authentication number.

  • Patent number: 7023586
Abstract: A facsimile server connected to a mail server and a client over a network, and capable of sending and receiving an e-mail via the mail server. Certain data in a header of an e-mail to be sent to a recipient is used as identification data indicative of an origin of the e-mail. A controller identifies the origin of the e-mail based on the identification data upon receiving reception acknowledgement from the recipient. The facsimile server sends the reception acknowledgement to the client if it determines that the e-mail origin is the client. On the other hand, the facsimile server causes a printer to print the reception acknowledgement if it determines that the e-mail is originated from the facsimile server itself.

  • Publication number: 20040246531
Abstract: When a user clicks and references a title from titles displayed in a thread on an electronic bulletin board, a control unit instructs an electronic bulletin board information generating unit to generate electronic bulletin board information including a main text and an image of a comment and transmits the electronic bulletin board information to a user terminal. When the user sends a reply of a new image or an edited image, identification information is provided to the transmitted image and the image is stored in an image storage unit. In addition, link information that links the image to the original image is transmitted to an image data version information management unit. In this case, when there is no reply of a comment, the control unit instructs an automatic comment generating unit to generate a comment of a reply of the new image or the edited image. The comment is stored in a comment storage unit and the comment link information is transmitted to a comment link information management unit.

  • Publication number: 20040151204
Abstract: When receiving a transmission request that designates a user as a destination, a control unit of a communication device inquires a remote server via a communication unit. The remote server looks up data, and returns a communication destination device that manages the user of the destination and communication information for communicating with the communication destination device. The control unit of the communication device receives the reply, specifies a communication channel or a communication protocol in accordance with the communication information to the communication destination device through the communication unit and transmits the information to the user within a range of receiving ability. When transmitting the information, a cover page can be formed from the information of the user of the destination, and the cover page can be attached to the information and transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20040095612
Abstract: To provide a facsimile machine which can reduce a period of time from the start of an original document scanning process until an end of a transmission of the electronic mailing of image data, by carrying out an electronic mail transmission process in parallel with an original document scanning process (parallel process). Approximately in parallel with the scanning of a first page P1 of the original documents, a second page P2 of the original documents, and a third page P3 of the original documents, corresponding image data P1D, P2D and P3D are generated, and further in parallel, packets as electronic mail data D1 through D9 are generated. When the generation of the electronic mail data D1 is completed, the electronic mail transmission data MD1 is transmitted, and then, the electronic mail transmission data MD2 through MD9 are transmitted serially according to each of the corresponding electronic mail data D2 through D9.

  • Publication number: 20040073706
Abstract: An Internet facsimile server, a mail server, an LDAP server, and a DHCP server are connected to a LAN. When the Internet facsimile server obtains an IP address from the DHCP server, the Internet facsimile server transmits its own electronic mail address and IP address to the LDAP server, and the LDAP server records the electronic mail address and the IP address to a correspondence chart. The mail server that received an electronic mail obtains an IP address from the electronic mail address by referring to the correspondence chart, and transmits the electronic mail to the Internet facsimile server by SMTP. An electronic mail can be distributed to the Internet facsimile server without using a DNS server.
