Patent number: 6856896Abstract: A vehicle recognition system to enable a two-wheeled vehicle without a navigation system to recognize the position of a traffic intersection and to cause itself to be noticed by other vehicles. The system includes a communication distance measurement modem which receives positional information of a traffic intersection and the current position of a four wheeled vehicle from the four-wheeled vehicle. The vehicle information interface (I/F) collects vehicle velocities, acceleration and deceleration, and mileages and provides them to an electronic control unit (ECU). A differential global positioning system (DGPS) measures the current position based on an electric wave received by a GPS antenna and correction information received by a FM antenna. The ECU determines the presence of another vehicle that the two-wheeled vehicle may intersect, and outputs visual and audio signals to the helmet worn by the driver of the two-wheel vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2002Date of Patent: February 15, 2005Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kazumitsu Kushida, Masashi Satomura

Patent number: 6788964Abstract: There is provided a mobile unit communication apparatus which is to be mounted on a mobile unit to intermittently transmit an information signal of the mobile unit. The apparatus has detecting means for detecting various statuses of the mobile unit and a periphery of the mobile unit, as status data. Further, the apparatus also has transmission frequency controlling means, wherein a transmission frequency of an information signal which is intermittently transmitted is changed in accordance with the status data. Hence, in each of the mobile units, the load of processing information obtained from received radio waves can be reduced. Further, the driver can efficiently obtain adequate status information, so that the driving load on the driver can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2000Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masashi Satomura, Ken Asami, Hirotatsu Tsuchida

Patent number: 6720938Abstract: A head-up display on a vehicle, which calls the attention of the driver or passenger to a dangerous object and makes the driver or passenger reliably recognize a communicated alarm, comprises: an image display device for displaying an image taken by a camera; a detecting device for detecting a target object; a switching device for manually switching between a display state and a warm-up state; and a warning device for outputting a control signal based on the detected result, thereby making the image display device display the image. The brightness for displaying the image according to the control signal is higher than the brightness for displaying the image according to a manual operation of the switching device.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2001Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Osamu Ohkawara, Masashi Satomura, Hiroshi Hattori, Takayuki Tsuji, Ken Asami

Patent number: 6252520Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a mobile unit communication apparatus that can give required information of one other mobile unit to another other mobile unit which a radio signal from the one other mobile unit does not directly reach. To achieve the object, an incoming information signal is received, it is judged based upon an information signal incoming when the approach of another plural mobile units near a mobile unit is detected based upon the incoming information signal that an error occurs in communication between another plural mobile units and an information signal to be transmitted between another plural mobile units is relayed when an error in communication between another plural mobile units is detected.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2000Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Ken Asami, Masashi Satomura, Hirotatsu Tsuchida
