Patent number: 8027801Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a data storage device test method and data storage device manufacture method which allow a tester to perform an operation test of plural data storage devices connected thereto in a shorter period of time. In one embodiment, an operation test of each of plural HDDs 81-84 connected to a tester is performed by making plural HDDs 81-84 execute commands received from the tester, wherein, during a waiting period when exchange stops between the tester and, for example, HDD 81 of which operation test is being executed, the tester executes the operation test of another HDD. Such a waiting period occurs, for example, before HDD 81 becomes ready to receive a command, before a data transfer is completed and before HDD 81 becomes ready to receive the subsequent command. By using this waiting period, the tester issues a command to, for example, HDD 82 if the HDD is ready to receive a command or transfers data to the HDD if data transfer is possible.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2006Date of Patent: September 27, 2011Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Shigeto Nishiuchi, Satoshi Takahashi, Masashi Tsuyama, Takahiro Nakagawa

Patent number: 7587550Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide an HDD functional test apparatus which can test an HDD in a shorter time by increasing the amount of transfer per command without using a larger memory resource. In one embodiment, a data storage device test apparatus comprises a storage section to store original data; a data generating section which generates transfer data, larger in size than the original data, for each command to a data storage device by repeatedly using the original data; and a transfer section which transfers the generated transfer data to the data storage device.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2006Date of Patent: September 8, 2009Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Masaki Kuwashima, Nobuo Takeda, Masashi Tsuyama, Satoshi Takahashi

Publication number: 20090150730Abstract: In a test apparatus for a data storage device, embodiments of the present invention help to support data storage devices with different specifications using a single processor. According to one embodiment, a test apparatus comprises a processor card and adapter cards. The adapter cards comprise power supply circuits to generate power supply voltages to be supplied to the hard disk drives (HDDs). Implementing power supply circuits in the adapter card accomplishes flexible support for HDDs with various specifications with a single processor cards. Since a plurality of HDDs are concurrently tested with a single processor card, it is not necessary to mount a plurality of power supply circuits on the processor card so that the processor card can be decreased in size.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2008Publication date: June 11, 2009Inventors: Nubuo Takeda, Masaki Kuwashima, Satoshi Takahashi, Masashi Tsuyama

Publication number: 20090118856Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system for solving a location designation problem to give specific instructions to workers as to where the device that has completed processing is in the production site, and a setup starting time designation problem to give instructions to workers as to when the setup for operation after a test is completed is conducted. One embodiment includes a means for recognizing the processing progress statuses of the devices in the production site, means for indicating the processing progress statuses of the devices, means for predicting the processing completion times of the devices, and means for indicating when a preparation (setup operation) is started for a particular device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2008Publication date: May 7, 2009Applicant: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Takahiro Nakagawa, Masashi Tsuyama, Shigeto Nishiuchi, Youichi Nonaka

Patent number: 7518858Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a mounting structure adapted to easily attach and remove a magnetic disk drive thereto and therefrom. In one embodiment, the mounting structure includes a device connector connectable to an interface connector. A clamper moves between a fixing position and a releasing position to secure or release an end portion of a housing. A lever keeps the clamper at the releasing position until the interface connector is connected to the device connector when a magnetic disk drive is pushed into a mounting structure. The clamper positions the clamper at the fixing position after the interface connector has been connected to the device connector.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2005Date of Patent: April 14, 2009Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Satoshi Takahashi, Masashi Tsuyama

Publication number: 20080163705Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention help to maintain the sealing capability of a depressurized space where a test subject device is placed in a test chamber apparatus, and to accurately control air pressure in the depressurized space. In one embodiment of the present invention, a depressurized space and a separate space are separated by a connection board. The connection board transmits signals between a test computer and an HDD. The connection board is fixed to an inner wall defining the depressurized space and the separate space. An opening is formed on the inner wall. The connection board which is larger than the opening covers the opening. To maintain the air sealing property in the depressurized space, the connection board is fixed to the inner wall via a gasket.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 4, 2008Publication date: July 10, 2008Applicant: Hitachi Global storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Masaki Kuwashima, Nobuo Takeda, Masashi Tsuyama, Shigeto Nishiuchi
