  • Patent number: 4380411
Abstract: A screw type shaving cutter and a method of producing the same. A large number of cutting edges are formed on the flanks of the thread of the cutter. Each cutting edge is inclined along a curve or a straight line in the trailing direction as viewed in the direction of rotation of the cutter in use. This shaving cutter is produced by forming a screw body by cutting a metal blank into a form of a screw, and forming a number of cutting edges on the flanks of the thread of the screw body by reciprocatingly moving a cutting tool on the flanks of the thread, while rotating the screw body continuously in one direction.

  • Patent number: 4354328
Abstract: The present invention provides a screw type hone assembly for the honing of gears manufactured by the gear cutting by forming process, the gear cutting by generating process or other like process. The hone assembly comprises a cylindrical sleeve mounted on the rotating shaft of a honing device and a hone body resiliently supported on the sleeve such that it is movable in the axial and radial directions thereof. The hone body includes spiral threads composed of a rigid body and a honing grain layer deposited thereon. The honing grain layer contains hard grains. The screw type hone assembly can easily be attached to or detached from the rotating shaft, and can readily be replaced by another screw type hone.

  • Patent number: 4309926
Abstract: A method for the preparation of a spherical hob for generation of a gear, which has a plurality of hob blades formed on the surface of a spherical hob blank, is disclosed. This method comprises forming spirally on the peripheral surface of the hob blank projections having a section defining an involute tooth profile by means of a cutting tool, cutting and forming a plurality of blade spaces intersecting said projections to thereby form a plurality of spirally continuous hob blades, and forming reliefs on the side faces and peripheral face of each hob blade so that as the blade faces of the hob are cut, the tooth profile of each hob blade corresponds to the tooth profile before cutting with a certain amount of addendum.

  • Patent number: 4174914
Abstract: A spherical hob for generation of a gear comprises a symmetrical frustospherical body in the form of a sphere truncated at two opposed extremities thereof, the body having an axis of symmetry perpendicular to the extremities. A hole passes through the body coaxially with the axis. Formed spirally about the axis on the peripheral surface of the body are projections having a section in a plane including the axis in the form of an involute tooth profile. Formed on the peripheral surface of the body, across the projections is a plurality of equidistantly arranged spaces dividing the projections into a plurality of spirally continuous hob blades, each having an involute tooth profile.

  • Patent number: 4171558
Abstract: A cutting oil composition for processing a cemented carbide skiving hob, which comprises (a) a base oil and (b) an effective amount to prevent wear of at least one additive blended therein selected from the group consisting of a metal-containing dithiophosphoric acid compound, a sulfonate, a phenate, a carboxylate and a phosphonate of an alkaline earth metal, and an alkyl- or arylphosphoric acid ester, the cutting oil composition having a viscosity at 100.degree. F. of from about 3 to about 25 centistokes. The use of the cutting oil composition can obviate the compression collapse of the edge of a tool and give finished gears of good quality.
