  • Publication number: 20070290097
Abstract: An object of the invention is to prevent non-uniformity in the temperature distribution from occurring in a tip turbine fan in a vertical take-off and landing aircraft that uses the tip turbine fan as a source of thrust. In a vertical take-off and landing aircraft provided with a tip turbine fan in which a fan is rotated by blowing, in an annular turbine chamber provided around a rotation shaft of the fan at the center, compressed gas to a tip turbine attached to the fan to enable vertical take-off and landing, three or more compressed gas intake ports for supplying compressed gas to said turbine chamber are provided at regular intervals along the circumference of the turbine chamber.

  • Patent number: 7188803
Abstract: A vertical take-off and landing aircraft is provided with a plurality of thrust generators which generate thrust substantially vertically upward with respect to the aircraft; a first prime mover which drives the thrust generators, and an occupant seat. At least one of the thrust generators is disposed at either a front section of the aircraft or a rear section of the aircraft, and the remaining thrust generator or thrust generators are disposed at either the rear section or the front section, whichever the at least one of the thrust generators is not disposed at. The prime mover and a sitting surface of the occupant seat are disposed between the at least one of the thrust generators at the front section of the aircraft and the at least one of the thrust generators at the rear section of the aircraft, and in a position lower than all of the thrust generators.

  • Patent number: 6969027
Abstract: A vertical takeoff and landing apparatus is excellent in the maneuverability and postural stability of its airframe, serves to protect a pilot from an impact when landing, and can make extremely stable flight when hovering near a building. An airframe has a propulsion device for generating propulsive force in a vertically upward direction, and a side wall surface surrounding the propulsion device. An air intake port has a plurality of divided air intake port sections formed on the side wall surface of the airframe. A duct part connects the air intake port sections and the propulsion device with one another. A shutter part is provided at each air intake port section for adjusting an amount of air flowing therein. A control unit adjusts the degree of opening of each shutter part in accordance with an operation of a control stick, so that the airframe can be moved in an arbitrary direction.
