  • Patent number: 5341650
Abstract: A first inlet is formed in the front portion of the box of an indoor unit, and a second inlet is formed in the upper portion of the box of the indoor unit. Openable/closable covers are provided to the second inlet. The covers are closed when a silent operation mode is set by an operation unit. When the covers are closed, the second inlet is closed, and the sound caused by a hissing indoor fan in the indoor unit and the sound of the refrigerant flowing in the indoor heat exchanger of the indoor unit will not leak to the outside of the indoor unit.

  • Patent number: 5234373
Abstract: An air conditioner is provided with a room unit which comprises a suction grille member mounted to the front panel of the room unit and a blow-off grille member mounted to the lower portion of the front panel. The blow-off grille member comprises two louvers turnable around axes thereof parallel to each other, a link mechanism operatively connected to the louvers so as to turn the louvers with different angles, rspectively. The link mechanism comprises a plurality of link members, for example a five-knot link mechanism, which are turnably coupled with each other and a driving motor for driving the link mechanism to thereby turn the louvers with different air blow-off open angles, respectively. An operation mode transfer member may be further provided for the blow-off grille member to transfer the operation mode of the louvers.

  • Patent number: 4866944
Abstract: A refrigeration cycle has high-pressure and low-pressure refrigerant sides and causes at least a variable-capacity compressor and an outdoor heat exchanger, both of which are arranged outside the room to be air-conditioned, to communicate with an indoor heat exchanger arranged inside the room. The refrigeration cycle is operated in a heating operation mode. An inverter generates an output having a predetermined operating frequency to be supplied to the variable-capacity compressor. A fan commonly supplies an air flow to the outdoor heat exchanger and the inverter. A detector detects a signal corresponding to the pressure of the high-pressure refrigerant in the refrigeration cycle. A first control section provides a command for causing the inverter to gradually decrease the predetermined operating frequency when a detection signal from the detector exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4620424
Abstract: In a method of controlling a refrigeration cycle constructed by connecting a compressor, an outdoor-side heat exchanger, an expansion valve, and an indoor-side heat exchanger, the temperature of a coolant ejected from the compressor is detected by a sensor, and the opening rate of the valve is adjusted in accordance with the detected temperature. When the detected temperature exceeds a prescribed upper limit, that opening rate of the valve which is indicated on that occasion is stored in a memory, and then the opening rate of the valve is increased to reduce the temperature of the ejected coolant to a lower level than a prescribed lower limit. After the temperature decreases from the lower limit, the opening rate of the valve is adjusted to a larger level than that level which is previously stored in a memory by a prescribed extent, thereby keeping the temperature of the ejected coolant between the upper and lower limits.

  • Patent number: 4604872
Abstract: A heat pump type air conditioning apparatus having a variable capacity compressor, wherein the compressor capacity is changed in accordance with the load of the air conditioning apparatus. The revolutions of the compressor, i.e., the compressor capacity, is controlled to be low when heating cycle restarts after finishing a defrosting cycle.

  • Patent number: 4519214
Abstract: An air conditioner includes a compressor, four-way valve, outdoor side heat exchanger, expansion valve and indoor side heating exchanger, which components are sequentially connected via coolant tubes, thereby constructing a refrigeration cycle circuit which is capable of performing cooling (defrosting) and heating operations. A switching control valve is connected between the suction side of the compressor and the four-way valve. The control valve is opened when abnormal high pressure is produced in the refrigeration cycle and when the defrosting operation is performed. A first branch passage is connected at its one end between the four-way valve and indoor side heat exchanger, and at the other end to the control valve. During the heating operation, when the control valve is opened, the first branch passage forms a releasing circuit, thereby releasing the abnormal high pressure to the low pressure side of the refrigeration cycle.

  • Patent number: 4240264
Abstract: An interior unit of a split type air-conditioning apparatus which is usually mounted on a wall of a room to be cooled and is extremely thin. The unit consists of a cabinet structure including a front panel, a middle frame and a rear plate, said front panel having an air inlet opening and an air outlet opening. Also included is a centrifugal fan, preferably a turbo fan with a plurality of backward curved blades, specially designed to adapt to the unit. The means for driving said fan are designed to be partly accommodated in the body of the turbo fan for the purpose of decreasing the depth of the unit.
