Patent number: 7503609Abstract: A storage box structure includes a pair of left and right seat cowls for covering sides of a vehicle body frame under a seat. Storage boxes are formed by the seat cowls so as to protrude outwardly in the direction of the vehicle width and provided with openable and closable lids on the outsides of a vehicle. The storage boxes include a projection projecting toward the center of the vehicle body. The projection includes an opening which is in communication with the interior of the storage box and is fitted at least to the projection of the other storage box. The opening brings the interiors of the left and right storage boxes into communication with each other. The storage box structure so configured achieves a reduction of the number of components, improvement of rigidity, and improvement of mounting accuracy.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2006Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kenichi Misaki, Ikuo Hara, Yoshihiro Inoue, Masayuki Dazai

Patent number: 7258356Abstract: A steering damper apparatus for a two-wheeled vehicle includes a steering damper housing with a lower end portion fixed to the motorcycle's main frame. A first torque arm has a first end fixed to a pivotally movable shaft, and a second end which is connected, via a first pin, to a first end of a second torque arm. The second torque arm has a second end bolted to a top bridge on the main frame. The first and second torque arms are pivotally movable relative to one another, via the pivot shaft and the first pin. The apparatus is capable of accommodating a change in distance between the pivot shaft and the bolt on the second torque arm. A two-part cover is provided for the steering damper body, including a housing cover secured to a fixed side thereof, and a torque arm cover secured to a movable side thereof.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2004Date of Patent: August 21, 2007Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yasunori Okazaki, Kaori Inada, Shinichi Ozeki, Katsuyuki Konishi, Masayuki Dazai, Taisuke Nimura, Masayuki Fujita

Patent number: 6251151Abstract: An air cleaner for use in combination with a fuel system of an engine, includes an air cleaning element housed within a casing. Air introduced from an air inlet, defined in the casing, follows an air flow path from the air inlet passing through the air cleaning element. The air flow path includes a direction change of approximately ninety degrees. This direction change transpires over a curved guide surface formed in the casing to reduce the likelihood of vortexes which reduce the air ram pressure. The curved guide surface may include a detachable panel. Also, the panel may include an air path to an air branch chamber. When two air inlets are used, it is advantageous to include a partitioning wall separating the two air flow paths prior to the air cleaning element.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1999Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koki Kobayashi, Masayuki Dazai, Kenichi Nishimoto, Kenichi Nishizawa

Patent number: 5560445Abstract: A vehicle lock device having an approximately U-shaped fixing portion is contained so as not to be seen from the exterior. An approximately U-shaped fixing portion is disposed within a containing portion formed on a rear fender so as to be longer in the longitudinal direction. A lock portion longer in the vehicle width direction is overlapped on the fixing portion so as to cross the fixing portion. The fixing portion and the lock portion are fixed to a hook of a cross-plate and stays of seat rails by means of a fixture. A seat is then mounted on the seat rails. The vehicle device can be thus contained so as not to be seen from the exterior.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1994Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Naoyuki Saito, Tetsuo Suzuki, Yorikata Showji, Katsunori Funabashi, Masayuki Dazai, Shinji Sumitani
