  • Patent number: 5468144
Abstract: Disclosed is a gas lighter. To use the gas lighter, first, the push-down member is depressed. As a result, the rotary body rotates and the engage pawl of the rotary body engages with the ratchet teeth of the ratchet. This rotates the ratchet, causing the rotary ignition means to rotate. As the rotary ignition means rotates, it rubs against the flint to make sparks, which ignite the gas injected from the gas injection means. To stop using the gas lighter, the depression of the push-down member should be released. Consequently, the push-down member returns by the returning elastic member so that the rotary body rotates in the opposite direction, thus disengaging the engage pawl from the ratchet teeth. At this time, the ratchet teeth and rotary ignition means do not rotate.

  • Patent number: 5358401
Abstract: An ignition mechanism for a lighter for cigarettes, cigars, etc. The ignition mechanism makes a fire surely and easily by a single operation and without staining the thumb of the user. A striker wheel is provided at least on one side thereof with a toothed wheel. An operation member is positioned adjacent the toothed wheel. The operation member is mounted on a shaft so as to be movable up and down and inclinable in the direction of moving to and away from the toothed wheel. The operation member has at least one engagement portion corresponding to the teeth of the toothed wheel. A coiled spring is disposed between the lower end of the operation member and the lighter body. The coiled spring pushes the operation member toward the toothed wheel. The operation member is connected with a nozzle lifting lever so that the nozzle lifting lever lifts the nozzle when the operation member is pushed down.

  • Patent number: 5350294
Abstract: When a lighter of the present invention is not in use, push-down means is kept positioned on one end side of lift-up means and has a lower end abutting against a lighter body to set a locked state to restrict a push-down action. As the push-down means is moved along the lift-up means toward the other end thereof, the locked state is released and the position of that movement of the push-down means toward the other end of the lift-up means is maintained by its relationship with respect to the lighter body or the lift-up means. When the push-down means is then pushed down, the lift-up means is rotated to open the valve means and ignition means is activated at a same time to ignite the fuel injected through the valve means. When that downward action of the push-down means is released, the push-down means moves upward to the original state while moving toward the one end of the lift-up means returning by the urging force of an elastic member along the lift-up means.

  • Patent number: 5213493
Abstract: A safety mechanism for a lighter which mechanism makes it difficult for infants or children to create a fire with the lighter. The safety mechanism comprises a safety member of a synthetic resin disposed under the rear portion of a gas lever. The safety member includes a frame and a lock portion. The lock portion being connected to said frame through hinge portions provided at two ends of said lock portion. The lock portion is bendable forward and backward at a hinge portion provided intermediately in the lock portion. The lock portion including an operation projection protruding backward therefrom. The frame being always pushed inward at positions near the hinge portions at two ends of said lock portion. The gas lever having a projection protruding downward therefrom at such a position that the projection of said gas lever is over said lock portion when the lock portion is in a backward bent position.

  • Patent number: 5192205
Abstract: A device for the gasification and flow control of liquified petroleum gas (hereinafter referred to as "LPG") in an apparatus such as a gas lighter for cigars and cigarettes, a gas igniter and a portable gas torch, said apparatus comprising a pressure container, a valve and a nozzle, said pressure container containing LPG, said LPG being subjected to gasification and flow control when said valve is opened, gasified LPG being emitted through said nozzle. The improvements comprise an orifice having a diameter of about 30 to 200 .mu.m and a microporous film having a hydrophobic property, said orifice being disposed at an upstream side of said valve, said microporous film being disposed at an upstream of said orifice. An unwoven fabric having a thickness of about 0.1 to 0.3 mm is preferably disposed between said orifice and said microporous film. A valve seat may be provided with an opening having a diameter of about 30 to 200 .mu.m, said opening serving as an orifice.
