Abstract: An image stabilizer for silver halide photographic materials which contains a water-soluble bismuth compound is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the stabilizer also contains a water soluble chelating agent capable of forming a bismuth complex or its salt having a stability constant (log KMA) of 3 or more, said constant being represented by formula (I): ##EQU1## wherein M is a bismuth ion and A is a complex forming anion. By using this stabilizer, the processed dye image is kept stable over an extended period and the occurrence of yellow stain in the non-image area is inhibited. The stabilizer is applicable not only to color photographic materials but also to black-and-white materials.

Abstract: A method of processing a silver halide color photographic material is disclosed. The material is treated with a bleach-fixing solution or a fixing solution, and then, without washing with water, treated with a stabilizing solution incorporating a water-soluble chelate compound of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Ba, Ca, Ce, Co, In, La, Mn, Ni, Pb, Ti, Sn, Zn and Zr and the group consisting of Mg, Al and Sr.
