  • Publication number: 20100151099
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method or processing technique as well as the product achieved there from for the manufacturing of high protein, high fiber, low carbohydrate snacks, cereals, and food items in which the end product will demonstrate low bulk density and/or a light crunchy texture. The product may be made up of mixtures of various sources of proteins such as Milk protein, Whey protein, Soya protein, Meat protein mixed with various portions of grains and hydrocolloids and processed in such manner where the product, utilizing the incorporation of various gasses into the plasticizing agent and then distributed within the matrix under low or high pressure such as cooking extrusion or forming extruder for the purpose of expanding the matrix of the food when exiting the die and the pressure is released. During the baking process, such expansion takes place when the gas infused plasticizer is distributed within the dough and further expands within the dough as it is being baked.

  • Patent number: 6088957
Abstract: This disclosure concerns affixing various seeds, such as grass seeds, to surfaces or cavities of specially manufactured fertilizer carriers formed into various shapes, e.g. star crosssections, tri-lobe or multi-lobe profiles, or cup-like or similar cavity-containing shapes. This shape and the manner of manufacturing of the fertilizer provides grooves and cavities or areas to which the seed can be affixed to the fertilizer and protected against damage during shipping and handling. The fertilizer carrier also acts as a nutrient source for the seed while the seed is most vulnerable, i.e. during its emergence from the seed coat and the first few days after emergence.

  • Patent number: 5914148
Abstract: A method for producing a dough product from starch containing ingredients of cellular structure, to obtain a product containing at least 50 percent starch material. This method comprises extruding the ingredients by passing them through an extruder of a predetermined inner barrel diameter. Within this barrel, an extruder rotor of predetermined outer diameter is accommodated to exert a mixing, kneading and heating effect onto the ingredients and to form a substantially homogeneous mass. This mass is then discharged and distributed from the extruder under predetermined pressure into a straight heated tube of an inner cross-section larger than the outer diameter of the screw(s). In this way, a plug flow of the mass through the heated tube is established to cook the mass at a predetermined temperature and for a predetermined period. Finally, the mass is formed at the end of the tube into a desired shape, but maintains mostly its cellular structure at least in part.

  • Patent number: 5894027
Abstract: Breakfast cereal products coated with a cold-water-soluble coating made from milk solids or high protein, vitamins, and mineral supplement powders adhering to the surface of the cereal via an adhesive or conditions making the surface of the cereal adherent are described. The cereal itself may contain in its basic recipe milk solids, fibers, sugars, fats and carbohydrates, various proteins and minerals, thus classifying the basic cereal formula as a high energy and/or high protein and/or high fiber cereal product, which may be fortified with other essential minerals and vitamins used commonly as dietary supplements. This product is processed in a manner so that a coating is applied composed of such products which remain soluble in cold water at the time of consumption, even after drying and eliminates the need for liquid milk requiring only tap water to generate a similar taste, color, and texture, as well as mouth sensation, at the time of consumption of the cereal.

  • Patent number: 5772721
Abstract: A substantially odorless and sterilized fertilizer in pellet form is produced by combining a dry organic waste material and a dry binder material, then combining the resulting dry mixture with steam, water and/or further organic waste in the form of sludge. The resulting material is provided to an extruder for a more thorough, dispersive mixing, a pressure increase to at least 100 psi, and heating above the glass transition temperature of the binder, and more preferably to at least about 125.degree. C. to substantially sterilize the material mass. The extruded material is forced through a die and released to an ambient environment, rapidly reducing pressure of the material and thereby lysing spores and microorganisms surviving conditions within the extruder. The emerging material is segmented and dried, or segmented and tumbled to form pellets, then dried.

  • Patent number: 5750173
Abstract: Described is a process for manufacturing syrup-infused proteinaceous and farinaceous food products by adding syrups heated to various temperatures to extruded food compositions where the extrudate exits the die under pressure, expands and releases moisture upon expansion, thus cooling and setting the structural matrix of the food while replacing the moisture partially or fully with the syrup.

  • Patent number: 5620737
Abstract: A food product for animal consumption is prepared from an animal by-product, preferably a complete avian carcass. A heated hydrolyzing agent is applied by spray or dip coating to the carcass exterior. After initiation of hydrolysis, the carcass is ground, enhanced by additives, then steam heated to a temperature of about 200 degrees F. The heated by-product is provided as a slurry or as dry particulates to a twin screw extruder. As it is transported across several zones of the extruder, the by-product is thoroughly dispersively mixed and subjected to high pressures and temperatures, vented to release moisture, neutralized with a neutralizing agent, and blended under high temperatures and pressures sufficient to completely sterilize what has become a highly uniform and homogeneous by-product mass. The by-product mass is extruded and cut into pellets, which then are dried to a moisture content at or below 10 percent.
