  • Patent number: 5729717
Abstract: A card contains an IC chip having a CPU, a memory, etc. When the card is inserted into a terminal device, it is connected to a host computer. Under this condition, the data in the memory of the IC card is processed by the host computer. The memory is manufactured in such a way that the memory area is segmented into a plurality of zones. An access controller for the memory is provided in the IC chip. In issuing the card, the access condition of each zone (for example, an assortment of access people and/or a type of access terminal) is programmed into the access controller by a card issuer.

  • Patent number: 5148543
Abstract: A nonvolatile memory has an area defining information area for storing area defining information corresponding to user data write areas. Each area defining information contains identification information representing whether a corresponding user data write area is an area in which stored data can be changed in accordance with a command from a keyboard. When a command for changing stored data in one of the user data write areas is supplied from the keyboard, a control element identifies in accordance with the identification information contained in the area defining information corresponding to the user data write area designated by the keyboard whether the designated user data write area is an area in which stored data can be changed. If the designated user data storage area is an area from which stored data cannot be changed, the control element inhibits stored data change processing for the designated user data write area.

  • Patent number: 5124920
Abstract: A memory stores the same information as that stored in an electronic license and a readout section reads out the license information by the electronic license. A control section determines whether or not the electronic license is the same as that owned by the owner, with the use of the information read out of the electronic license. In the case where the electronic license is the same as that of the vehicle owner, the license information or information such as the name of a person granted to use the owner's vehicle, if being entered from a keyboard, is stored in the memory. Upon the entering of the license information into a present device via a keyboard, a control unit compares the entered license information with grant information for granting the use of the owner's vehicle which is stored in the memory. If there occurs a coincidence, a key-lock section unlocks a steering wheel so that the authorized person can drive an engine by an engine control unit.

  • Patent number: 5017766
Abstract: In an IC card having an update function of transaction data, account type, supplementary amount, and valid date are input to the IC card. The IC card adds a renewal number data held therein to the input transaction data, and the data is encrypted using key data, thus generating reference confirmation data. Input confirmation data is generated using the identical encryption generation algorithm by a host system of a credit company. The input confirmation data is supplied to the IC card. A comparison means in the IC card compares the input confirmation data with the generated reference confirmation data. As a result of the comparison, if these data coincide each other, the input data is stored in the memory in the IC card as new transaction data and update processing is executed.

  • Patent number: 4879645
Abstract: An IC card comprises CPU, PROM for storing programs, and RAM for storing the results of arithmetic operations. PROM stores a table on which the names of specific programs are registered. RAM has execution counters which counts up each time each program is run so that the number of times the specific program is run is memorized. Prior to the running of each program by CPU, it is judged whether or not the program is a specific one. If it is the specific program, the execusion counter counts up. When the count value of the execution counter is above a predetermined value, the running of the specific program is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4822990
Abstract: An admission control system including a portable medium which is equipped with a transponder that is actuated and powered by an inquiry radio wave and sends out an identifying code signal as a radio wave, a transmission device which is provided at a gateway to a place to which admittance is to be gained by only specific persons, and at the gateways to specific areas within the place, and so on, the transmission device transmits an inquiry radio wave, upon detecting the passage of the gateway by a person who carries the portable medium. The admission control system receives an identifying code signal from the portable medium that is transmitted in response to the inquiry radio wave, admits the bearer of the portable medium card to the place only when the identifying code coincides with the identifying code at the gate, and confirms the position of the person within the place.

  • Patent number: 4771460
Abstract: A data processing terminal device is on-line connected to a host computer and records on journal paper journal data obtained as a result of communication with the host computer. Data is encrypted, and encrypted data is exchanged between the terminal device and the host computer. The encrypted journal data received by the terminal is decrypted and printed on a journal paper, then modified and stored in a PROM. By comparing the journal data with the modified data, journal data alteration can be easily detected.

  • Patent number: 4757543
Abstract: A data processing terminal device is on-line connected to a host computer and records on journal paper journal data obtained as a result of communication with the host computer. Data is encrypted, and encrypted data is exchanged between the terminal device and the host computer. The encrypted journal data is printed together with the normal journal data on the journal paper. The algorithm used to encrypt the data is stored on an ic card issued to the user and updated periodically. By comparing the journal data with its encrypted data, journal data alteration can be easily detected.

  • Patent number: 4739479
Abstract: An apparatus for inputting classification information of delivery matter comprises a display section into which postal matter is conveyed and which shows an address of each postal matter to the operator and a keyboard to input a zip code corresponding to the address displayed, and which apparatus converts the zip code inputted into a bar code and print this bar code on the postal matter. This apparatus further comprises a first storage section to store the zip codes corresponding to a plurality of states which are derived by dividing the whole region where the postal matter is delivered, a second storage section to store the zip codes corresponding to a plurality of cities that are obtained by dividing the state, a third storage section to store the zip codes corresponding to a plurality of towns that are obtained by dividing the city, and a CRT display section to sequentially display the zip codes stored in the first, second and third storage sections.

  • Patent number: 4641753
Abstract: An apparatus for sorting mail is disclosed. In the apparatus, a readout section reads out destination data on mail. A discriminating section discriminates the destination data on the basis of the result of readout by the readout section. A plurality of coding desks each include a display section for displaying the readout result by the readout section when the discriminating section fails to discriminate the destination data, and a keyboard for enabling the destination data corresponding to the contents of display by the display section to be input. The plurality of coding desks are assigned to regions or cities. A distributing section distributes the readout result by the readout section to coding desks corresponding to regions or cities as recognized from part of the address data when the discriminating section fails to discriminate the destination data.

  • Patent number: 4632252
Abstract: A mail sorting system is provided which includes a plurality of mail sorters and coding devices. These mail sorters and coding devices are selectively coupled together by a distributor so that any coding device can be coupled to any mail sorter. When a mail sorter cannot identify the zip code of a particular piece of mail, the unrecognized address image is transferred to one of the coding devices so that the correct address can be input by an operator. An assigning controller is connected to the distributor for determining which coding device should receive the unrecognized address image in accordance with the current mail processing capability of the mail sorters and coding devices in order to maximize the mail handling capability of the mail sorting system.
