  • Patent number: 6875416
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing lithium-transition metal mixtures of general formula Lix(M1yM21-y)nOnz, wherein M1 represents nickel, cobalt or manganese, M2 represents chromium, cobalt, iron, manganese, molybdenum or aluminium, and is different from M1, n is 2 if M1 represents manganese and is 1 otherwise, x is comprised between 0.9 and 1.2, y is comprised between 0.5 and 1.0 and z is comprised between 1.9 and 2.1. According to the inventive method, an intimate mixture composed of transition metal compounds containing oxygen and of a lithium compound containing oxygen is calcinated, said mixture being obtained by processing a solid powder transition metal compound with a solution of said lithium compound, and then drying. At least the M1 compound is used in powder form having a specific surface of at least 20 m2/g (BET) and calcination is carried out in a fluidised bed.

  • Patent number: 6447739
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing lithium transition metalates of the general formula (I): Lix(M1yM21−y)nOnz, where M1 represents lithium, cobalt or manganese; M2 represents cobalt, iron, manganese or aluminium and is not equal to M1; n is equal to 2 if M1=M, and 1 in all other cases; x is a number between 0.9 and 1.2; y is a number between 0.5 and 1.0; and z is a number between 1.9 and 2.1. According to the method, an intimate solid mixture is produced of oxygen-containing compounds of the transition metals and oxygen-containing lithium compounds and this mixture calcinated in a reactor, whereby calcination takes place at least partly at an absolute pressure of less than 0.5 bar.

  • Patent number: 5967429
Abstract: For the metered feed of coarse granular material into an air jet mill an injector 3 operated by propellent air is used, the coarse material being fed continuously to a closed injector hopper 6 provided on the injector 3. In the injector hopper 6, the pressure is measured at a product-free point and, by resetting the propellent air mass flow at the injector 3 is held constant at a preselected setpoint partial vacuum value. Said setpoint value is preferably set so low that at said pressure there is only just no return flow from the injector 3 into the injector hopper 6. The apparatus for effecting said method comprises a control loop having a pressure sensor 16 for measuring the flow in the closed injector hopper 6, a motor-adjustable valve 4, 5 as an actuator for varying the supplied propellent air mass flow and a loop controller, which compares the actual pressure value with a preselected setpoint value and supplies a control signal for operating the actuator 4, 5.

  • Patent number: 5841037
Abstract: In the process for the continuous collection of pulverulent or dusty samples from a particle-laden stream, a sample stream is drawn off from a particle-laden main stream in a pneumatic conveying line 17 and passed via a collection line 9 to a particle size measurement device 10. In order to reduce spin, the main stream in the conveying line 17 is passed through a venturi-like cross-sectional constriction 3, 4, 5, the cross-sectional area of which is 10 to 60% of the free cross-sectional area of the conveying line 17. Samples are then collected downstream from the cross-sectional constriction through one or more probe tubes 7, wherein a partial stream is collected from the main stream parallel to the direction of flow thereof.
