  • Patent number: 9726005
Abstract: The invention relates to a positioning method for determining a position of a downhole tool moving at a velocity in a casing in a well, comprising the steps of measuring a magnitude and/or direction of a magnetic field by means of a first sensor several times over a time period while moving along a first part of the casing manufactured from metal, determining a manufacturing pattern of the casing along the first part from the measurement measuring a magnitude and/or direction of a magnetic field by means of the first sensor several times over a time period while moving along a second part of the casing manufactured from metal, determining the velocity of the tool along the second part, adjusting the determined velocity of the tool along the second part based upon the manufacturing pattern.

  • Patent number: 9359884
Abstract: A positioning tool for determining the position of the tool in a case downhole. The positioning tool utilizes a detecting unit which includes at least a first magnet and a first sensor in a first plane as well as a second sensor also arranged in the first plane. The first and second sensors are configured to detect changes in a magnetic field generated by the first magnet. The first sensor is arranged at a first distance from the first magnet and the second sensor is arranged at a second distance from the first sensor in the first plane.

  • Publication number: 20160032713
Abstract: The present invention relates to a completion component having a circumference for insertion into a well tubular structure, comprising a tubular base part having an axial extension and a thickness and being adapted to be mounted as part of the well tubular structure, and a displaceable part having a thickness and being displaceable in relation to the tubular base part from a first position to a second position, wherein the tubular base part comprises a plurality of first markers and the displaceable part comprises a second marker for determining a position of the displaceable part in relation to the tubular base part, the first and second markers being arranged with a marker distance, wherein the first markers are different in geometrical size or material, or arranged with a varying mutual distance.

  • Publication number: 20120193144
Abstract: The invention relates to a ranging system (1) for controlling a drilling process downhole. The ranging system has a longitudinal direction and comprises a drilling tool (2) for drilling a first borehole (3), the drilling tool having a tool axis (4) and comprising a magnetic field source (5) in the form of an electromagnet generating a magnetic field (6) and having a magnetic field source axis (7) which is substantially parallel to the tool axis. Moreover, the ranging system comprises a sensing tool (8) arranged in a second borehole (9) for measuring the magnetic field by means of at least two sensor units (10), which sensor units are arranged at a distance (D) from each other along an axis of the sensing tool.
