Publication number: 20170126862Abstract: A mobile device can include electronic circuitry and a chassis shell adapted to protect the electronic circuitry. The chassis shell includes an opening exposing a tray inside the mobile device. The tray can include an external card slot and a patterned wall. The tray can be disposed within a cavity of a support structure of the mobile device. An input/output (I/O) component, such as a speaker, and a card reader can also be disposed within the cavity. The I/O component can communicate via at least a hole in the patterned wall (e.g., a speaker grill).Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2016Publication date: May 4, 2017Inventors: David John Evans, V, Xinrui Jiang, Andrew E. Publication number: 20170123454Abstract: Certain aspects of the technology disclosed herein integrate a camera with an electronic display. An electronic display includes several layers, such as a cover layer, a color filter layer, a display layer including light emitting diodes or organic light emitting diodes, a thin film transistor layer, etc. In one embodiment, the layers include a substantially transparent region disposed above the camera. The substantially transparent region allows light from outside to reach the camera, enabling the camera to record an image. In another embodiment, the color filter layer does not include a substantially transparent region, and the camera records the light from the outside colored by the color filter layer. According to another embodiment, while none of the layers include a substantially transparent region, the layers are all substantially transparent, and the camera disposed beneath the layers records light reaching the camera from outside.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2016Publication date: May 4, 2017Inventors: David John Evans, V, Xinrui Jiang, Andrew E. Rubin, Matt Hershenson, Xiaoyu Miao, Joseph Anthony Tate, Jason Sean Gagne-Keats

Publication number: 20170126863Abstract: A mobile device can include a unibody component (e.g. chassis shell) with at least a co-mold feature that isolates a contiguous portion of the unibody component from an outer portion of the unibody component. For example, the outer portion and the contiguous portion can be made of an electrically conductive material. The co-mold feature can be made of non-conductive material that electrically isolates the contiguous portion from the outer portion. The co-mold feature can be made by co-molding a resin material in a channel cut into a piece of metal and later exposing the cured resin material on two sides.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2016Publication date: May 4, 2017Inventors: David John Evans, V, Xinrui Jiang, Andrew E. Rubin, Matt Hershenson, Xiaoyu Miao, Joseph Anthony Tate, Jason Sean Gagne-Keats

Publication number: 20170126979Abstract: The technology disclosed here maximizes the size of the display area associated with the mobile device by various camera placement. In one embodiment, the camera is placed inside the mobile device, and can pop outside the mobile device when the camera is activated. When the camera is inactive the camera retracts inside the mobile device, and becomes unnoticeable to the user. In another embodiment, the camera is integrated into the mobile device display as a camera icon. The integrated camera serves two purposes: to record pictures, and to act as a camera icon, that when selected activates the camera. By removing the camera from the front side of the mobile device, or by integrating the camera into the display screen of the mobile device, the size of the mobile device display screen can be increased.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 26, 2016Publication date: May 4, 2017Inventors: David John Evans, V, Xinrui Jiang, Andrew E. Publication number: 20170124932Abstract: Some embodiments include a mobile device with a light sensor overlaid under a display (e.g., a touchscreen). The mobile device can identify a command to capture an image. The mobile device can adjust at least a target portion of an opaqueness adjustable region of the display directly over the light sensor. The opaqueness adjustable region is capable of transforming from substantially opaque to substantially transparent. The mobile device can capture the image utilizing at least the light sensor while the target portion of the opaqueness adjustable region is substantially transparent.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2016Publication date: May 4, 2017Inventors: David John Evans, V, Xinrui Jiang, Andrew E. Publication number: 20170126861Abstract: A mobile device can include a support frame adapted to support one or more electronic components of the mobile device. The mobile device includes a chassis shell adapted to form an exterior of the mobile device. The mobile device can include a tray exposed on the exterior and having at least two functional components of the mobile device attached thereon serving at least two different functions (e.g., an electronic function, an input or output function, and/or a mechanical function to support a permanent or temporary component). The chassis shell exposes one of the functional components on the exterior. The tray is capable of sliding outward to further expose the other one of the functional components.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2016Publication date: May 4, 2017Inventors: David John Evans, V, Xinrui Jiang, Andrew E.
