  • Patent number: 6269112
Abstract: This invention is an electric arc furnace that can be continuously charged with ferrous materials, that can continuously melt the incoming charged materials, and that can semicontinuously tap molten steel by tilting to tap one side of the furnace or another. Continuous melting and refining can occur in lateral shafts adjacent to the central melting zone, and molten steel can be tapped from either of these shafts or directly from the central melting zone if desired. The furnace can be operated and tapped continuously, which provides many distinct advantages over what is currently available in the art.

  • Patent number: 6201826
Abstract: Loading system for an electric arc furnace (11) includes a loading station (20a), a pre-heating station (20b) and a pick-up and moving device (15) provided with an arm (17) rotating on a circumference on which the furnace (11), the loading station (20a) and the pre-heating station (20b) lie. The loading station (20a) being distanced from the pre-heating station (20b), the loading element (16) being suitable to be located in or removed from each of the loading (20a) and pre-heating (20b) stations.

  • Patent number: 6163560
Abstract: Method to process fumes performed on fumes discharged directly from furnaces (10) through an aperture (11) in their roof or from loading baskets (13) used to pre-heat scrap which is to be loaded into a furnace, the fumes (17) afterwards being sent to a purification plant (24) and to a chimney, the fumes (17) leaving the furnace (10) and/or the loading baskets (13) through a cooled conduit (14) being made to pass through at least a first transit chamber where they are subjected to a post-combustion process before being sent to the purification plant (24) and the chimney, the first transit chamber being a first expansion chamber and the fumes entering the first expansion chamber (15a) expanding in correspondence with a wider section (215a) therein at the entrance thereto and being deflected by a deflector element (18) arranged substantially at the center of the wider section (215a), the expansion and deflection causing the fumes to decelerate from a speed at the inlet of around 20 to 50 meters per second to a s

  • Patent number: 5725635
Abstract: Method to remove organic halogenated molecules from gaseous currents arriving as a residue of industrial working processes or not, the gaseous current being delivered into a reactor (16) containing a fluid bed consisting of at least one solid adsorbent element after having undergone at least one filtration followed by a cooling, the gaseous current cooperating with the solid particles with exchange by adsorption between the gaseous current and the solid particles, the reactor (16) achieving a time of contact between the gaseous current and the solid particles at least longer than 3 seconds, the gaseous current which enters the reactor (16) having a temperature lower than 80.degree. C., but advantageously between 30.degree. and 70.degree. C., the cooling of the gaseous current upstream of the reactor (16) being followed by a gas/water or gas/air heat exchanger (13).
