Abstract: This invention relates to a method comprising (a) employing a composition comprising (i) an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (ii) a salt of a nitrogen containing poly(meth)acrylate and a phosphorus acid ester; and (b) lubricating a gear with such composition resulting in control of gear fatigue.

Abstract: A grease composition containing: (a) the reaction product of: (i) a calcium containing overbased organic acid; and (ii) at least one acid producing compound or derivatives thereof selected from the group consisting of: (1) a non-polymeric hydrocarbyl substituted dicarbonyl derivative selected from the group consisting of an acid, an ester, a salt, an anhydride, ester-acid, acid-salt and mixtures thereof; (2) a copolymer derived from monomers containing (1) an olefin; and (2) an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride or derivatives thereof; and (3) an inorganic acid containing about 2 or more acidic hydrogens; and (b) an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the overbased calcium sulphonate contains colloidally dispersed calcium carbonate is selected from the group consisting of calcite, vaterite and mixtures thereof. The invention further relates to the process to make the composition and its use in greases to increase water resistance.

Abstract: A grease composition containing: (a) an esterified polymer derived from monomers comprising: (i) a vinyl aromatic monomer; (ii) an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride or derivatives thereof; (b) a thickening agent; and (c) an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the esterified polymer contains titratable acid groups with a total acid number of at least about 4. The invention further relates to the process to make the composition and its use in grease to increase water resistance.

Abstract: Quenching oil composition comprising (1) an oil having kinematic viscosity (ASTM Test Method D-445) at 40° C. ranging from about 4 to about 45 mm2sec?1 (about 40 to about 210 Saybolt Universal Seconds (SUS)) and having a saturated content from about 80% to about 100%; (2) an aliphatic polyolefin having Mn ranging from about 300 to about 10,000; and (3) at least one member selected from members of the groups consisting of (a) a metal salt of hydrocarbyl substituted phenols, salicylic acids, carboxylic acids, and sulfonic acids and alkaline earth metal salts of hydrocarbyl substituted saligenin derivatives; and optionally, at least one member selected from members of the groups consisting of (b) hydrocarbyl substituted succinic esters, amides, ester-amides, imides, amine salts, acid-esters, acid-amides ester-amine salts, amide-amine-salts and acid-amine salts.
