  • Patent number: 8135286
Abstract: Methods of providing duplex free-space optical, communication comprising receiving a time-shift keying (TSK) encoded signal and selectively re-modulating—and optionally retro-reflecting —received TSK pulses so as to transmit an on-off keying (OOK) signal wherein modulation is achieved by operating a micro-opto-electronic mechanical system (MOEMS) device having a oscillation period, the difference in timing between logic 1 and logic 0 pulses of the TSK encoded signal being such that each pulse arrives at a time within a single MOEMS device oscillation period chosen to ensure high or low transmissivity through the MOEMS device independent of incident TSK encoded signal pulse value (0 or 1).

  • Publication number: 20120029176
Abstract: Adsorptive media for chromatography, particularly ion-exchange chromatography, derived from a shaped fiber. In certain embodiments, the functionalized shaped fiber presents a fibrillated or ridged structure which greatly increases the surface area of the fibers when compared to ordinary fibers. Also disclosed herein is a method to add surface pendant functional groups that provides cation-exchange or anion-exchange functionality to the high surface area fibers. This pendant functionality is useful for the ion-exchange chromatographic purification of biomolecules, such as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).

  • Publication number: 20110083370
Abstract: A plantation window shutter comprises a frame and a plurality of shutter blades pivotably supported by the frame in a fan configuration. The frame comprises a front surface and a rear surface. The rear surface has a plurality of upper grooves and a plurality of lower grooves, each upper groove being axially aligned with a respective lower groove. Each of the shutter blades has a longitudinal pivotal axis and a top pivot and a bottom pivot aligned along the axis, the top pivot and the bottom pivot being received in respective upper groove and the lower groove for pivotal motion therein. At least one member is attached to the rear surface disposed to bridge over the upper grooves and the lower grooves, thereby to capture the top and bottom pivots within respective the upper grooves and the lower grooves.

  • Publication number: 20080247764
Abstract: A method of synchronising an optical transmitter and modulator comprising transmitting a calibration sequence of pulses from the transmitter to the modulator; varying a control timing drawn from the set comprising the transmit interval timings and the modulator transmission interval timings; monitoring the resulting pulses transmitted by the modulator and selecting a preferred control timing; controlling the optical transmitter and/or modulator responsive to the selected control timing. Corresponding apparatus, systems, signals and programs for computers to implement or control the arrangement are also provided.
