  • Patent number: 9417072
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method of determining a heading of travel of a navigation device, comprising determining a reference heading for a roadway system and determining a current heading of navigation device travel, wherein the current heading is determined as an integer multiple of a predetermined lock angle in combination with the reference heading.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 5, 2012
Date of Patent: August 16, 2016
    Assignee: TomTom International B.V.

  • Patent number: 8706403
Abstract: At least one example embodiment discloses a method of detecting a bifurcation in a navigable feature. The method includes first determining a first possible segment and a second possible segment of the navigable feature based on location measurements along the navigable feature, the location measurements representing a heading vector and the location measurements having a higher probability of being on the first possible segment than on the second possible segment, second determining an angle based on the heading vector and a vector between the second possible segment and one of the location measurements, and detecting a bifurcation based on the angle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 6, 2010
Date of Patent: April 22, 2014
    Assignee: TomTom International B.V.
Inventors: Matthijs Willem den Otter, Alexandru Serbanescu
