  • Patent number: 9294029
Abstract: A method of estimating a rotor angle of a synchronous reluctance motor, which includes a stator and a rotor. First, a stator flux and a stator current are determined. Two orthogonal stator flux components in a stator reference frame are calculated from the stator flux. Two orthogonal stator current components in the stator reference frame are calculated from the stator current. A rotor orientation vector is then calculated using a known rotor direct or quadrature axis inductance component, the stator flux components, and the stator current components. The rotor orientation is estimated on the basis of the rotor orientation vector.

  • Patent number: 9188648
Abstract: A method and an arrangement of determining inductances of a synchronous reluctance machine are provided. The method includes supplying a voltage pulse in the quadrature-axis or direct-axis direction of rotor, sampling currents generated by the supplied voltage pulse, and calculating values of flux at the sampling instants from the value of the supplied voltage pulse, the sampled current values and a value of the stator resistance. The method also includes calculating synchronous inductance of the machine by dividing the calculated flux values by the corresponding sampled currents, and/or calculating transient inductance of the machine as a derivative of the flux with respect to current, and storing the calculated values as a function of current.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are directed to estimating a rotor angle of a synchronous reluctance motor. The motor has a stator and a rotor. A stator flux and a stator current are determined. Two orthogonal stator current components in the stator reference frame are calculated from the stator current. Two rotor orientation vectors are then calculated using a known rotor direct and quadrature axis inductance components, the stator flux components, and the stator current components. A rotor angle is estimated based on the rotor orientation vectors.
