  • Patent number: 8098668
Abstract: LAN emulation in a moving network environment is disclosed. An emulated LAN encompassing a number of moving networks is formed by means of a set of layer 2 tunnels that interconnect a home agent with mobile routers in the moving networks. The home agent and the mobile routers are arranged to perform layer 2 forwarding over the layer 2 tunnels in order to form the emulated LAN. The layer 2 tunnels can be established in a number of alternative ways. The moving networks that are part of the emulated LAN may move, i.e. change their points of attachment to the network infrastructure, in a dynamic fashion without disrupting the function of the emulated LAN.

  • Patent number: 8095680
Abstract: An electronic device has a multimedia framework including an integration layer and a higher-level application layer. The integration layer includes predefined media processing components having an input/output interface configurable based on the type and format of media content delivered to the device during a streaming media session and that provide predefined media processing functions to the application layer for enabling playback of the media content. A streaming media management component included in the integration layer establishes and manages the streaming media session and configures one or more content pipes used during the streaming media session to access packets received by one or more sockets. The component also maps the content pipes to the sockets and processes packets retrieved from the one or more content pipes such that the media content is provided to corresponding ones of the predefined media processing components in accordance with their configured input/output interfaces.

  • Publication number: 20100214955
Abstract: The basic concept of the present invention is to utilize the terminal as an auxiliary information collector in networks where the regular network-based information collection is not possible and/or for providing information that complements the information that the network-based Access Awareness Entity collects by itself. The terminal collects information related to the access network directly, through retrieval of explicitly available information, and indirectly, through measurements and statistics. The collected information is delivered to the network-based Access Awareness Entity.

  • Patent number: 7746876
Abstract: The present invention relates to moving networks in communication systems. An object of the invention is to provide moving network nodes (205, 206) in a moving network (201) with the ability to simultaneously access several external access networks (211, 212, 213) accessible by different mobile routers (204, 207) such that a data packet directed to an address external to the moving network can be sent from a moving network node via any of the mobile routers (204, 207) and via a tunnel setup in any of the simultaneously accessible external accesses to a home agent (216) in a home network (215) of the mobile router. This is achieved by synchronizing between the mobile routers data regarding the external accesses of each mobile router, and, when a data packet is received at a first mobile router (204), the first mobile router selects external access based on the synchronized external access information, information in the data packet and optionally also based on access selection policies.

  • Publication number: 20090316623
Abstract: The present invention aims at making it possible for a data packet originating from a mobile network node (102, 103) in a moving network (101) to be routed over any of a number of external accesses (111, 112) accessible from different mobile routers (104, 105) in the moving network to home networks (115, 117) related to the moving network, for the case where the mobile routers advertise different address prefixes to the mobile network nodes.

  • Publication number: 20090298496
Abstract: In a communication system including mobile terminals and different wireless networks the mobile terminals can estimate the speed with which the mobile terminals move and communicate estimated values of the speed to a selection function (17) selecting one of the wireless networks communicating information from and to the respective mobile terminal. In the estimating, first estimated speeds and/or positions of a mobile terminal are determined (11) particularly for each of the wireless networks, from the communication with the particular wireless network. Then the estimated values are by special interfaces (11) input to a different speed estimation function (15) in which a combined value of the speed of the mobile terminal is calculated, according to a speed estimation algorithm and is input to the selection function. In this speed estimation also a recommended one of the wireless networks can be determined.

  • Publication number: 20090265767
Abstract: The present invention relates to prefix management in a moving network comprising a first mobile router which is assigned a first prefix for use when passing traffic to and from a home agent with which the first mobile router is associated, and a second mobile router. The present invention relates to methods and arrangements in the first mobile router, the second mobile router and the home agent for delegating the right to use said first prefix to said second mobile router in a secure manner by means of first and second authentication information that may be compared to verify that the second mobile router has the right to use the first prefix.

  • Publication number: 20080186897
Abstract: The object of the invention is to achieve a solution for managing the use of simultaneously accessible access resources (211, 212, 213) connecting a mobile router (204) of a mobile network (201) and a home agent (216) in a home network (215) of the mobile router (204) by means of a tunnel in each access resource (211, 212, 213), such that it is controlled which access resource a data packet travelling in any direction between the mobile router (204) and the home agent (216) is using. This is achieved by having the mobile router (204) controlling the use of the access resources (211, 212, 213) both for packets sent in the direction to the home agent (216) and for packets sent from the home agent to the mobile router (204). For this reason, the mobile router classifies a data packet that is to be sent to the home agent based on information in the packet and selects an access resource for sending the packet based on the classification.

  • Publication number: 20080162714
Abstract: A streaming media client negotiates a single value for each reporting parameter associated with all accepted quality metrics applied to the same level of a streaming media session. This way, each quality metric applied to the same level of a streaming media session is reported with the same rate and optionally the same range, thus reducing the number of QoE/QoS reports generated by the client. According to one embodiment, quality of a streaming media session established between a client and a server is indicated by negotiating a single value for a reporting parameter associated with a plurality of quality metrics applied to the same level of the streaming media session. The level may be the session level or a media level. The quality metrics accepted by the client and server during negotiation are reported according to the negotiated reporting parameter value.

  • Publication number: 20080062958
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, a protocol and a control unit for managing devices in a Personal Area Network (PAN) such that a user of the PAN can use one of his devices and take advantage of services residing in any of the other devices in the PAN. The devices in the PAN are defined as either PAN controller devices or PAN auxiliary devices depending on if the devices have user interfaces suitable for controlling a PAN. When the PAN is managed according to the invention, the PAN controller devices and the PAN auxiliary devices communicate with each other via short-range communication means to exchange each other's PAN related information such that PAN related information is synchronized in the network. At least the PAN controller devices store received updated PAN related information from the other PAN participants such that the user can see an updated picture of the PAN on the PAN user interfaces.

  • Publication number: 20070291670
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of activating a PDP context via a mobile terminal (MT), such as a mobile telephone, initiated by a terminal equipment (TE), e.g. a laptop, where the terminal equipment (TE) is arranged to be connected to the mobile terminal (MT). Hitherto, such an activation of a PDP context via a mobile terminal, required the user of a terminal equipment to have quite specialized knowledge, e.g. a special reserved number defined by GPRS, an additional digit (the connection ID) for specifying a special APN to connect to, etc. The invention provides a user-friendly method of performing such an activation, in that the mobile terminal (MT) is arranged to listen for an activation trigger from the terminal equipment (TE) and to perform said activation upon the reception of an activation trigger The invention moreover relates to a mobile terminal.
