  • Patent number: 5157808
Abstract: An improved coil spring counterbalance assembly embodying a coil spring support structure that provides a cooperatively radiused restraining shoe against which the uninterrupted smooth external circumferential surface of the coil spring ribbon rotationally operates in extension and retraction thereof during counterbalanced sash movement, thereby eliminating both the clicking sound and spring rotational cyclic vibrational shocks otherwise caused by the spring interior ribbon core tail ending riding over the top of a spring core support hub, in addition to a multiple coil spring connection method for improved successive affixment of extended coil spring ribbons one to the other and in turn to the sash attached balance shoe connector therefor when more than on coil spring is required in order to effect proper sash counterbalancing.

  • Patent number: 4935987
Abstract: A self-contained heavy duty constant force sliding sash counterbalance assembly embodying a stacked plurality of coil springs each having a uniform coiling and recoiling force throughout all of the various coils irrespective of the individual coil spring positions of extension or contraction, wherein the counterbalance assembly structure is provided with an elongated U-shaped housing adapted to adjustably accommodate the addition or removal of individual spring elements as necessary in order to achieve the proper counterbalance effect for the weight of the particular sash to be supported so that over the raising and lowering range of that sash to which the counterbalance assembly is affixed, and at all adjustably set sash opening elevations and corresponding coil spring positions of extension and contraction therebetween, there is a substantially constantly uniform counterbalance force effect exerted on the sash.

  • Patent number: 4694552
Abstract: A compound portal frame extrusion profile of that type employed in the manufacture of insulated portal frames for windows or sliding doors and the like, wherein the compound portal frame profile is fabricated by means of a cooperative mechanical clamp assembly structure provided integral to a set of separate lineal portal frame profile extrusion components and a fabrication method is employed based on the utilization thereof which enables the interim lineally aligned interlock connection of the separate portal frame profile extrusion components, in turn being of either two dissimilar colors or materials or a combination thereof respectively for the interiorly and exteriorly outward facing finished compound portal frame extrusion profile component members, to thus form an intercommunicating resin receiving trough for containing and supporting the progressive injection deposit therewithin of a thermally non-conductive resin-bonding material by which is formed a structural interlock connection joinably between t

  • Patent number: 4683676
Abstract: A tilt window balance shoe assembly embodying a split balance shoe structure which enables the replaceable installation and removal thereof within a window casing jamb channel thereby eliminating either the window casing production prefabrication and cost therefor of providing a specially cut window jamb notch to accommodate the after-installation removal of a worn and reinstallation of a conventional unitarily constructed replacement tilt window balance shoe, or, if no such access notch has been provided, then elimination of both the maintenance and repair cost and inconvenience of additionally removing and reinstalling the window sash counterbalance mechanism in order to otherwise accomplish conventional balance shoe removal and replacement.

  • Patent number: 4594813
Abstract: In a window sash of the kind which in use is vertically movable within a stationary frame, an assembly for holding the sash at an elevated, partially open position in the frame comprising: at least one stop element carried within a downwardly open recess in said sash and mounted in said recess for free sliding movement in the plane of the sash between a retracted position in the recess and an extended position in which a portion of the stop element protrudes out of said recess; and a manually operable latch carried by said sash selectively operable to hold said stop element in its extended position and to release said element for free sliding movement within said recess, whereby raising of said sash in its frame allows said stop element to move to its extended position and whereby said element may then be latched in its extended position.

  • Patent number: 4570381
Abstract: An insulated single plane window or door assembly including a casing defining a generally rectangular opening in a building wall and having first and second pairs of spaced parallel tracks with each pair being adapted to support a glazing frame with the glazing frames normally disposed for sliding movement in parallel laterally spaced vertical planes and for pivotal movement to incline the glazing frames from their respective vertical planes, with one pair of tracks being adapted to displace the glazing frame supported therein laterally into the vertical plane of and into substantially edge-to-edge relation with the other glazing frame to close the door or window assembly. The casement includes a mullion extending transversely of the rectangular opening adjacent to the juxtaposed edges of the two glazing frames when in the closed position and a resilient seal is provided between the mullion and an external surface of the respective glazing frames.
