  • Patent number: 6619828
Abstract: A motor vehicle headlight comprises a light source, a reflector and an occulting mask. The mask comprises a set of elements which in pairs define, respectively, mutually facing faces which define between them passages extending through the mask in directions passing away from the light source.

  • Patent number: 6435704
Abstract: A motor vehicle headlight has a light source, a reflector and a mask. The mask has one or more sets of masking elements, such as fins or annular rings, that face each other to form a passage. The passage extends through the mask in a direction away from the light source, thereby allowing heat to escape from the light source without optical leakage.

  • Patent number: 6250790
Abstract: A motor vehicle headlight, in particular a foglight, has a lamp which is mounted with a reflector, together with a cover lens. The lamp has mounting means, such as an end cap, for engagement in a plane at right angles to the optical axis of the reflector. The reflector is made of injection moulded plastics, and is stripped from the mould in a direction parallel to the optical axis. The reflector comprises a base portion and at least one adjacent further portion. The further portion has a lamp hole formed through it, and an external surface of a wall of the reflector surrounding the lamp hole makes a rake angle with the direction of stripping the reflector from the mould. Between this external surface and the mounting means of the lamp itself, adapter means have surfaces for engagement by the mounting means of the lamp in a plane parallel to the optical axis.

  • Patent number: 4920463
Abstract: A lampholder, for mounting a lamp in an opening of a reflector in a headlight for an automotive vehicle, includes a ring having structure for mounting the ring in the reflector opening and locating elements for locating the lamp in the ring in a position which is predetermined both axially of the lamp and rotationally around the lamp axis. The lamp holder also has structure whereby the lamp can be secured removably in this position. This securing structure includes a radially extending tongue and a locking finger diametrically opposite the tongue, both being formed integrally with the lampholder ring. The tongue is hinged on the ring and has a longitudinal profile such that, when it is swung about its hinge so as to overlie a diameter of the ring, it covers a part of the lamp and is held in position by the locking finger. In this position the tongue is resiliently deformed so as to exert a spring biassing force on the lamp and thus to hold the latter firmly in position.

  • Patent number: 4872096
Abstract: The invention provides a mechanism for retaining a bulb in position in a lamp holder of a reflector. The lamp holder comprises a circulat bearing surface for engagement by the flange of a bulb, and the mechanism comprises a spring clip pivotally mounted on one side of the lamp holder and having cranked legs adapted to bear against the bulb flange. The spring clip is adapted to engage a catch element on the opposite side of the lamp holder which comprises a lamp engageable by the end of the spring clip, which terminates in a catch. The catch element also incorporates a release ramp facing the catch. On fitting of the bulb, pressure on the spring clip towards the opening causes the clip to side over the ramp and engage the catch, thereby to secure the bulb. Removal of the bulb is acheived by pressure on the spring clip in the same direction, which causes the clip to slide over the release ramp and pass out of the catch element, thereby releasing the bulb.

  • Patent number: 4670199
Abstract: Method of production of a reflector wall having a core of thermosetting material enclosed in a skin of thermoplastic material, by two-material injection molding. Between a concave mold face having projecting points and a convex mold face, a thermoplastic skin material and a thermosetting core material having a polycondensation temperature greater than the plasto-elasticity temperature of the thermoplastic skin material are successively injected, while holding a temperature intermediate between the two temperatures; the points cause in the skin material interruptions permitting the emergence of the core material to the concave mold face, in localised zones of this in which open vents; the polycondensation of the core material and the hardening of the skin material is successively caused.

  • Patent number: 4635174
Abstract: The present invention relates to a protective cap for a motor vehicle headlamp and is intended to be mounted on the rear of a reflector (100) incorporated in the headlamp. The cap comprises an enveloping sleeve (20) which has inwardly projecting fastening means (21, 22) for co-operating with a rim (111) on the headlamp. The sleeve also has a flexible sealing lip (30) which rests, in use, against the reflector. According to the invention, the fastening means are arranged in a plurality of levels of generally annular structures projecting from the inside face of the sleeve and axially spaced along said inside face (23). In addition, the sealing lip is suitable for withstanding deformation including a radial component which is of the same order of magnitude as the axial separation between two adjacent levels of the projecting structures, while still providing proper sealing for the rear surface of the reflector (100).

  • Patent number: 4614997
Abstract: The device is of the type comprising a lamp-supporting ring (10) having an opening for receiving the base of a lamp, and a clip (30) in the form of a loop of wire which is pivotally mounted to one side of the said opening to pivot between an open position in which the opening is clear and a closed position in which the clip locks a lamp in position. The device includes the improvement wherein a first end (32) of the said wire is pivotally mounted in at least one bearing (16) provided on the said one side of the ring, and wherein the opposite end of the clip (40) is so shaped as to present a cradle suitable for receiving a portion of the first end and for being itself received, when the clip is in the closed position, in a recess (42) provided in the ring. The device is particularly intended for use in car headlights.
