  • Patent number: 6612234
Abstract: A lightweight portable compact flexographic universal printer coater adaptable to printing units on the same press or other presses of the same nominal printing width. The printer coater has a frame which comprises an anilox roller, a means to rotate the anilox roller at or near the surface speed of the rotating printing surface, a liquid film supply for replenishing the liquid film on the surface of the anilox roller, and a positioner device to place the printer coater between the on and off-impression positions. The printer coater apparatus is placed onto at least one pair of fixed supports mounted on the printing press frame so that the positioner apparatus can place the printer coater between an on and off-impression position. Spacers of selected widths may be mounted between the fixed supports and the interior surfaces of the press frame to compensate for slightly varying press frame widths associated with different press manufacturers.

  • Patent number: 6272986
Abstract: A retractable impression cylinder coater printer known as the “Lithoflex I™” combines lithographic and flexographic printing and coating in a single pass operation. The apparatus is adapted for installation on any printing station of a multi-color lithographic press, and is not limited to the last printing station. Ink or coating materials are applied from a printing plate or a blanket mounted on the plate cylinder of the retractable printer-coater unit and applied directly onto the surface of a substrate passing over the impression cylinder of the lithographic printing station just after being lithographically printed on that station. The combination printed substrate is passed to the next or a following lithographic printing station where it is lithographically overprinted.

  • Patent number: 5611278
Abstract: The system of the present invention controls the temperature of ink so as to enhance print quality. An ink roller has a circulation path therein. A circulation system circulates fluid, such as water, through the ink roller and through a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is part of a refrigeration and heating system that selectively cools and heats the circulating water. The refrigeration and heating system uses a compressor, an expansion valve and the heat exchanger. To provide refrigeration, refrigerant fluid is circulated in the refrigeration and heating system through the expansion valve and to the heat exchanger. To provide heating, the expansion valve is bypassed by a conduit, wherein hot fluid from the compressor flows directly to the heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 5562031
Abstract: A printing press has a plate cylinder, an inking system and a dampening system. A bridge roller provides a path between the inking and dampening systems. The bridge roller is in contact with a dampening form roller, which in turn is in contact with the plate cylinder. The dampening form roller is driven by an arrangement that allows the dampening form roller to rotate at a differential speed with respect to the plate cylinder in order to clean hickies off of the plate cylinder. The speed of the bridge roller is controlled so as to provide a slip nip between the bridge roller and the dampening form roller and so as to control the ink-water balance, even when the dampening form roller is rotating at a differential speed.

  • Patent number: 4411193
Abstract: A drive system for rollers in pressure indented relation including a lug on a drive gear, which is rotatably mounted about one of the roller journals, and a projection on the roller journal such that the gear will drive the roller only when the lug and the projection are in engagement. The system provides a drive for driving rollers at different surface speeds, the drive being adapted to permit rotation of the rollers at equal surface speeds until lubricant is transferred to the nip between the rollers and thereafter at different surface speeds.
