  • Patent number: 6645040
Abstract: A two-ply support garment such as a brassiere, panty, or the like, is made by positioning a piece of heat-bondable polymer film between two fabric plies of a two-ply fabric blank in one or more selected areas that will become portions of the garment, heating the film to bond the plies to the opposite faces of the film in the one or more selected areas, and fashioning a two-ply garment from the blank. A brassiere embodiment includes the film in partial regions of the cups, in a central panel between the cups, and in side panels of the brassiere.

  • Patent number: 6637490
Abstract: According to the present invention there is provided an anvil assembly adapted for selective cooperation with a horn operatively connected to an ultrasonic wave generator such as to enable a textile workpiece disposed between the horn and the anvil assembly to be cut with the cut and simultaneously sealed. The anvil assembly comprises an anvil and a cradle, the anvil adapted to be selectively mounted onto the cradle in any one of at least two mounting positions, wherein corresponding to each mounting position the anvil comprises one peaked longitudinal cutting edge and a corresponding engagement section parallel to a longitudinal axis of the anvil. The corresponding positioning and engagement section is adapted for selective engagement for removably positioning and locked onto the cradle.

  • Patent number: 6517651
Abstract: An apparatus and method for joining together two or more fabric components without thread, the components including at least one ultrasonically bondable component. The apparatus comprises an ultrasonic horn operable to emit ultrasonic energy through a fabric-engaging end face thereof, and a rotatable anvil support having an outer peripheral surface on which one or a plurality of anvil supports are formed. The anvil support and the horn are arranged so as to define a nip between the respective fabric-engaging surfaces thereof for receiving the components to be joined. The anvil support rotates about an axis thereof as the components pass through the nip such that the outer peripheral surface of the anvil support defining the anvil structures is stationary relative to the components passing through the nip.

  • Patent number: 6237519
Abstract: A tape feeder for feeding elasticizer tape to a stitching machine adapted for stitching the elasticized tape onto a textile workpiece, the tape feeder comprising a tensioning assembly comprising a tensioning assembly comprising a gearbox fitted with a first shaft and a second shaft substantially orthogonal to one another and rotationally coupled to one another via suitable first coupling mechanism and a first roller. A presser mechanism comprising a second roller mounted onto a releasable bracket such that the first and second roller are maintained essentially parallel and biased towards one another for grippingly passing elasticized tape therebetween in response to rotation of one of the rollers. The first and second shaft have a free end for selectively coupling to a suitable driving member. And a mounting structure mountable onto the stitching machine, for supporting the gearbox assembly in either a first position and a second position being in substantially orthogonal relation to one another.
