A fluid collection system (100) includes a fluid collection device (102) configured to collect fluid discharged from a user and a fluid collection container (106) configured to receive the fluid from the fluid collection device. The fluid collection system also includes a means for sensing (110) at least one of a property or status of the fluid collection system. The fluid collection system also includes a controller (112) operatively coupled to the sensor, the controller configured to communicate at least one of the property or the status of the fluid collection system to a computing device (114).

Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to fluid collection assemblies including one or more leak prevention features, systems including the same, and methods of using the same are disclosed herein. An example fluid collection assembly includes a fluid impermeable barrier at least defining a chamber, at least one opening, and a fluid outlet. The fluid collection assembly also include at least one porous material disposed in the chamber and one or more leak prevention features. The leak prevention features may include at least one of a shape of the fluid collection assembly that improves fit between the fluid collection assembly and a patient, at least one absorbent material at least partially disposed outside of the chamber, a base configured to have a patient disposed thereon, or one or more features that allows a length of the fluid collection assembly to change.

Abstract: Examples relate to systems, devices, and methods utilizing means for securing a protruding portion of a fluid permeable body disposed between a wearer's labia in position during use. The protruding portion is formed from fluid permeable material that allows urine or other fluids to pass therethrough. The fluid permeable body is disposed at least partially within a fluid impermeable barrier to prevent leakage of the fluid. The fluid is removed through a conduit disposed in a chamber within the fluid impermeable barrier.

In an embodiment, a fluid collection device is disclosed. The fluid collection device includes a fluid impermeable barrier at least partially defining an interior chamber and an opening through which the interior chamber is exposed to an external environment. The fluid collection device includes a fluid permeable body positioned at least partially within the interior chamber to extend across at least a portion of the opening and configured to wick fluid away from the opening. The fluid collection device includes one or more retention components for retaining the fluid collection device on labia of a wearer by engaging with one or more of legs, pelvis, or buttocks of the wearer. The fluid collection device includes a conduit extending into the interior chamber.

An example fluid collection assembly includes a fluid impermeable barrier. The fluid impermeable barrier includes a sump and a base. For example, the sump may protrude outwardly from the base. The sump defines an opening and a chamber. The fluid collection assembly may include at least one porous material disposed in the chamber that at least partially covers the opening, such as a fluid permeable membrane extending across at least a portion of the opening and a support disposed in the chamber. The fluid collection assembly may also include an adhesive layer disposed on the base that is configured to secure the rest of the fluid collection assembly to at least a portion of a pubic region of an individual. Further, the fluid collection assembly may include a fluid outlet.
