    Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to gaming systems, gaming devices, and methods for presenting tournament games. According to one embodiment, a tournament gaming system, includes a plurality of gaming machines connected to a network, a tournament administration server, a tournament session server, a session service, and a session database. The tournament session server uses message stream classes and acts as a link between the tournament administration server and the gaming machines. Additionally, the tournament session server registers with the tournament administration server, wherein upon successful registration, the tournament administration server sends tournament messages to gaming machines via the tournament session server. The session service includes transport libraries. Preferably, the transport libraries use pre-configured socket ports for communication, and the session service registers with the libraries to send and receive messages to gaming machines.

According to one method, a player tracking card is received at a gaming device. Tournament entry points are incremented as the base game is played. In one embodiment, tournament entry points are based on a predetermined percentage of a player's wager for base game play. The player is presented with one or more tournament games for play when the player has accumulated a sufficient number of tournament entry points. A tournament game selected by the player is initiated on a secondary display of the gaming device. In one embodiment, the secondary device has an embedded processor that is separate and distinct from a main processor of the gaming device. Once the tournament game is initiated, the player is presented with the option to have the tournament game automatically played.

The server-client download throttling system enables the downloading of software (or other data) to gaming machine on the network without affecting game play and casino revenue. In this manner, the server-client download throttling system prevents game play interruption while maximizing throughput for download transfers.
