Patent number: 10520264Abstract: A cooling device for an automotive battery includes at least one coolant line and at least one separate pressing element which is designed to be elastic so as to press the coolant line against an exterior side, preferably a flat side, of the automotive battery. The pressing element is designed as a composite component which has a separately manufactured reinforcing component which is enclosed in a plastic material. A method for manufacturing the cooling device includes the acts of providing a reinforcing component, in particular an elastic metal component, manufacturing an elastic pressing element as a composite component by sheathing the reinforcing component with plastic material, and applying a coolant line to the composite component. The composite component is acted upon to press against the coolant line in the event of deformation perpendicular to the exterior side of the automotive battery to be cooled.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2014Date of Patent: December 31, 2019Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: David Jakob Morton, Stephan Weileder, Micha Dirmeier

Patent number: 9269500Abstract: A power supply device for a hybrid or electric motor vehicle, in particular a passenger vehicle or a motorcycle, includes a plurality of electrochemical storage cells and/or double-layer capacitors. The electrochemical storage cells and/or double-layer capacitors have a casing surface and, in an axial direction, a base surface and a cover surface which are connected by the casing surface, and each include electrodes. Adjacent to the casing surface of at least one of the storage cells and/or double-layer capacitors, a heat-conducting cooling apparatus is disposed which, although electrically insulated from the at least one storage cell and/or double-layer capacitor, is in thermal contact with a first circumferential section of the casing surface and dissipates the heat energy introduced by the casing surfaces of the at least one storage cell and/or the double-layer capacitor.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2009Date of Patent: February 23, 2016Assignee: Bayeriche Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Alexander Meijering, Micha Dirmeier, Philipp Petz, Nicolas Flahaut, Frank Eckstein, Bjoern Lath, Hubertus Goesmann

Patent number: 9212838Abstract: A cooling device and to a method for controlling a cooling device for vehicles is provided, the cooling device including a refrigerant compressor, a condenser downstream of the refrigerant compressor in the flow direction of the refrigerant, a first evaporator downstream of the condenser for cooling air to be supplied to the passenger compartment, a second evaporator arranged parallel to the first evaporator for cooling an electric accumulator, and a control unit which is configured to control the refrigerant compressor as a function of the cooling demands for the passenger compartment and/or the electric accumulator on the basis of the higher cooling demand requirement. The cooling device may further include electric valves between the condenser and the first and second evaporators to control a cooling capacity of the first and/or second evaporator to meet the cooling demands of the passenger compartment and/or the electric accumulator.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2012Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Gregor Wendrock, Michael Nirschl, Nicolas Flahaut, Micha Dirmeier, Robert Lustig, Christopher Wagner

Patent number: 9052148Abstract: A power supply device for a motor vehicle, in particular a passenger vehicle, truck or motorcycle, comprises one or more storage cell modules, each of which includes one or more electrochemical storage cells and/or double layer capacitors that are arranged next to and/or on top of one another. The device includes a cooler block having a holder for the storage cell modules and a heat dissipating structure for dissipating heat emitted by the storage cell modules. The heat dissipating structure is provided on at least one side of the holder. The cooler block includes a clamping device operatively configured to generate a predefined force by which the heat dissipating structure can be pressed against a respective storage cell module.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2011Date of Patent: June 9, 2015Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Frank Eckstein, Bjoern Lath, Hubertus Goesmann, Micha Dirmeier, Philipp Petz, Alexander Meijering
